Sila

I sat at my desk, feeling my brain cells leave me as I graded the test papers I recently gave my students. I could feel a vein getting ready to pop from the stupidity. I rubbed my temples, trying to release pressure from this migraine that kept trying to come.

"The grading can't be that bad," I heard a voice chuckle. I looked at her and rolled my eyes. "Ye-Jun, these children might be beyond help," I sighed, tossing the rest of the papers on the desk.

"You're giving up already," she chuckled, then kissed my temple. "I could care less if they aren't those two," I mumbled. Usually, I would be checking on them, but I am still a teacher. "Remind me why a teacher out of everything?"

"It's how we can get close to them," Ye-Jun said while kindly sitting on my desk. "Get off my desk," I growled at her. Not moving an inch, she stared at me, then tilted her head. "You have a horrible staring problem," I mumbled, picking the papers back up.

I ignored her presence and continued grading the papers until I stumbled upon Emrie's paper and smiled. She once again got full marks on her test, and Phara was always right behind. I feel like they might be cheating.

I doubt it.

I grade their papers and hand them to the snob on my desk. I swatted at her leg, trying to get her to move. In return, she popped my hand. "I am wounded," I dramatically gasped and held my hand.

"I'll get over it," she said and continued to examine the papers. "I am your mate," I said, crossing my arms and legs. "You aren't the only one," she said and handed me the papers back.

What a pain in the ass she is.

I finally got done grading papers with no help from it. "I'm honestly surprised you haven't given the girls a peek today," she said, finally getting off my desk. "Well, I do have other things to take care of," I stood and stretched my limbs.

I wonder what's got her so talkative? She's usually quiet as a mouse. "What's got you talking," I questioned, throwing my arm over her shoulder. She just looked at me and kept walking. I grinned when she shrugged me off her.

"I didn't expect you to spank her like that so soon," I said, walking ahead of her. "I expect that out of me," I turned towards her to see her looking away. She knows I'm right.

No matter what role we took, she was always the rational one. The one who kept her head screwed on tight no matter what.

She was the calm one.

She grumbled and sighed afterward. She passed me, bumping my shoulder, and walked into the kitchen. She grabbed a bottle of wine, poured a glass, and handed it to me.

"Good luck with your grading," she smiled and left to her room. I swirled the glass I had in hand and watched as the liquid clashed against each other with each motion. It was a nice gesture from her, and the wine was highly needed.

I stayed up for another two hours trying to focus on grading papers, but I couldn't. With every minute, I had this feeling telling me Phara needed me. I sighed and dropped my pen on the desk.

I guess one peek wouldn't hurt, right?

I closed my eyes, and instead of creating a domain for us, I decided to enter her dream instead. When I opened my eyes, I saw her dart past me as if being chased. Once she was out of sight, I heard an eerie voice cackling in every corner of the dream.

More like a nightmare.

"Where are you, Phara," the voice slurred. "Your mom said I could play with you. Don't you want to play with Uncle Charles," he shouted. With each step he took, his boot echoed around. I immediately wanted to find out who this person was, but before I could, I heard a little voice from behind me.

"You have to hide me," she whispered with a sniffle. Bruises littered her little body, and the only thing covering her was a dress that wasn't fit to be called one. "What happened to your dress, honey," I asked and took off my coat.

"He ripped it," she said, wiping the blood from her nose. I wrapped my jacket around her and looked around for a hiding spot. Weirdly enough, we were in a forest. There were tons of places to hide.

I didn't need one for me, just one small enough for her.

I spotted a small but deep cave further north that would fit her. "Can I hold you," I asked her. She was hesitant, but once she heard his boots sound off, she nodded.

I gently picked her up and ran towards the cave. I used a little speed so I wouldn't hurt the child. "Hide here," I said and gently sat her down. "Crawl towards the back," I said, gently pushing her toward the cave.

"I'm scared," she whispered, backing into me. The footsteps were getting louder, and even though this was a dream, it seemed more like a memory. "Don't worry, I'll still be here," I said, kneeling in front of her.

"Can't you go in with me?" She was now clinging to me and begging me not to leave.

Since this is a dream, I should be able to change my appearance. I thought hard about what to change into and finally decided on a cat. "Now, will you please get in the cave," I begged the child.

She quickly crawled to the back of the cave, and I was right behind her. "Phara," we heard the man angrily yell. She sped up and curled into a ball once she reached the back.

"Why are you running from him," I asked, curling up in front of her to block her from view. "He wants to play, but I hate playing with him. It hurts," she whispered and played with my jacket.

It didn't take a genius to realize what kind of "playing" she was talking about. The thought of what he was doing made my skin boil.

Even though this is a dream, I will find him and end his life.
