Phara
I don't think Emrie has taken a look in the mirror yet. Her hair was messy, her lips were swollen, her face was tear-stained, and she had marks here and there. I've been in that position too many times to know that look. Granted, it wasn't willing, but still.
I rubbed her hair out of her face as she slept. I don't see how she immediately fell asleep like this. She was half on and half off the bed. I tried to get her on the bed, but she was heavier than me.
Mr. Fluffy just sat and watched me struggle. I wish he could help.
"Finally," I huffed when I succeeded. As soon as she was on the bed, Mr. Fluffy laid on her and curled his tail.
Why did she name him that?
I'll get her some water for when she wakes up.
I left the room and tip-toed down the hallway. I wasn't sure if anyone was awake, but I still wanted to be quiet. "Do you think they've returned?" "If she's in that state, yeah." "Who?" "We'll talk about it later," Zhana said. Crap, she knows I'm here.
"Is everything okay," she asked once I came into view. "Yeah, I just came for water," I mumbled. All eyes were on me, and I just wanted the floor to open and swallow me whole. "It's late. I should get going," Malina stood up. Tanya stood as well after checking the time. "Same here."
"Kiss Miguel for me," Zhana said. They all left me standing here alone to go their different ways, and I couldn't be happier. Zhana came back and handed me a bottle of water. "Good night," she mumbled with her lips against my forehead.
"Good night."
When I walked into the room, Emrie was sitting on the bed with Mr. Fluffy. "Why did you name him Mr. Fluffy," I asked, handing her the water.
She was about to answer me when my phone pinged, making me jump. Then again and again. I finally picked up my phone to see texts from a number that has been harassing me lately. I don't know who it is, and I would normally ignore them, but this time I couldn't.
You looked so beautiful. *Picture* I can't wait to play with you again, U.C.
The picture of me standing outside of school. It was from yesterday. I know this because I wore white-overall shorts and a pink shirt yesterday. I quickly deleted the texts, hoping Emrie wouldn't see them.
I could feel my eyes burning as tears threatened to fall. I was trying my best not to suck my thumb, so I bit my lip and balled my fist. "What's wrong," Emrie asked, sitting straight. I shook my head and violently wiped my tears.
I could feel myself slipping back and forth. "Nothing wrong," I mumbled. Crap, I haven't slipped since the day before my mom was killed. Emrie didn't say anything. She stood up and locked the door, sitting back on the bed.
"Come here," she patted the spot beside her. I crawled onto the bed, and she laid my head on her lap. "Everything is going to be okay," she reassured me. "Everything okay," I mumbled, hoping she didn't hear me while I fought myself.
She grabbed my balled hand and pulled my thumb out. "Suck," she said. She put my thumb in front of my mouth. I shook my head. I didn't want to slip and spill everything I'd been holding.
"No," I said, noticing the change in my voice, and I know she did too. "Suck," she growled, and I opened my mouth.
Emrie's Pov
As soon as her thumb was in her mouth, she slipped.
Since Phara had been traumatized for so long, she developed a coping space for herself. Many would disagree with this coping method, but if it helps her, I don't care. To put it simply, Phara is a little.
"Hello, little fairy," I softly said, trying not to alarm her. "Hello," she whispered innocently. "Will you tell me what's wrong," I asked. She shook her head and whispered, "No tell."
"Are you scared?" She gently nodded her head and curled into a ball. "It was hard being a big girl, wasn't it," I rubbed her hair. She nodded her head, and her body violently shook. "Scared and scary," she said with a cracked voice.
I wanted her to tell me what was wrong but on her own accord. "Let's get your mind off it." "What do you want to do," I asked her. She shook her head, indicating nothing.
We stayed like this until I heard her soft snores. Sebastian now stood at the foot of the bed with a concerned expression.
"Is she okay," he asked. I tucked her in bed and left the room with him. "She's fine." "Then, what was that," he gestured back to the room.
I grabbed my keys and was about to leave when I heard Zhana's voice. "Going to fall down another hill," she sarcastically asked. "No, the grocery store," I retorted. Now's not the time to be suspicious of me.
"Can you keep an eye on Phara, please," I asked, Sebastian quietly waiting. Zhana's playful glare turned into a serious one. "What's wrong," she asked. "Yeah, we'll watch her," Amaya said before I could respond.
"Thanks," I said and left.
Phara's POV... again
"Phara, where are you," the taunting voice bellowed. The sound of my feet slapping the bare floor and my panting was all that could be heard as I ran. My hair flew behind me like a cape, and the cold wind sliced my cheeks.
"I have to hide," I whimpered to myself. I tried door after door, but they were all locked. I frantically looked around for a hiding place when I spotted a doggy door. I ran to it and hoped I fit, which I did, and I was now outside.
I never looked behind me as I ran. I didn't care about what I stepped on. I needed to run and not look back.
I ran until I saw the familiar cave. I crawled to the back and waited.
I hope he doesn't find me. "Phara," his angry voice bellowed, shaking me to my core. I was getting closer. I curled myself into a ball and tried to cover my cries.
I heard him run past and waited for a couple of more minutes. When I didn't hear him, I crawled out from my spot. "Ow," I yelp as my hair was gripped. "I found you, you little bitch," he growled in my ear and tightened his grip.
He pulled the rest of me from the cave and threw me against a tree. I released a gasp from the pain I felt and tried to scramble away. "I don't want to play with you anymore," I shouted.
I got up but was grabbed before I could run again. "We're going to play, and you're going to scream and moan for me," he demanded, pinning me to the ground.
"No!"
"No," I yelled, sitting up. I awoke to an empty room. When did I go to sleep? "Emmie," I whispered in the dark. "Emmie," I yelled out. When she didn't answer, my bottom lip started trembling.
She left me. This is why I have to be a big girl. I'm sorry. "I'm sowwy."
I crawled off the bed and felt my way to the closet when I heard footsteps. I sat in the furthest corner of the closet and silently cried. "Phara," I heard his voice. The lights in the room came on. I tried my best to stay quiet.
My eyes were shut tight, and my thumb was secured in my mouth. I felt a hand on me and flinched away. "No, no wanna play," I cried, curling further into myself.
"Zhana, don't touch her." "Emrie should be on her way back, right?" "You should call her. I'll stay here with her."
Why is he talking to himself? Why does he know Emrie? I don't want her to get hurt. "No hurt, Emmie," I begged, eyes still shut. "I won't, I promise." "Could you open your eyes for me?" I shook my head. I don't want to see it.
"Please," he begged. Why is his voice getting higher?
I peeked one eye open, but I didn't see him. I saw a dark-skinned woman who was giving me a soft look.
She opened her arms and whispered, "I promise I won't hurt you." As soon as the words left her mouth, I was in her arms. She was warm, and she smelt nice. The feeling I got from her reminded me of my grandmother.
"It's okay. Emrie didn't leave you," she whispered, rubbing my hair. "Nam," I asked. "Amaya," she chuckled.
"ank you," I muttered as my eyes fluttered close.
