When Rebecca left, Phara lay on the bed and patted beside her. I took my shoes off and lay on her, resting my head on her stomach.

"I know you're going to miss her, but what if those were the last things you could've said to her," Phara tried to reason while running her hands through my hair.

"I should've told her I hope she got hit by a bus then," I joked. "Her answer would have been the same," Phara chuckled.

In short, one statement was a way to tell her I would miss her and the other that I loved her. If one Christmas she hadn't returned, and if she found the tape, then I no longer missed her.

"I'm just glad she didn't leave in the middle of the night," Phara said. "She probably was thinking that."

"You need to apologize to Malina and Jun, as well," she said in a serious tone. "I will."

Hopefully, apologizing to my mother will lessen the wraith she would release on me.

I started playing with the hem of her dress as I listened to her heartbeat. It was soothing to me. "Esmie," she called after a while, and I hummed in response.

"Look at me." When I looked at her, she sat up and connected our lips. "How are you really feeling about early," she asked, her lips hovering over mine.

"Are you talking about Rebecca?"

"No, the graduation."

I didn't feel anything about it. I was too shocked to feel anything else about it. I mean, we were in a crowd of people. I didn't expect something like that to happen.

I'm just grateful Rebecca was there. If he had hit me, that's fine I could defend myself, but I was not prepared for a gun.

"I don't feel anything about it," I said. "Are you sure," she asked, her eyes searching mine. "I'm sure," I said., closing the gap between us.

She wrapped her arms around me, and I placed a hand on her hip and deepened the kiss. I was close to taking her dress off in the heat of the moment, but we were interrupted.

"Well, no need to cheer either of you up."

Phara pushed me off the bed and landed with a thud. The ceiling sure does look nice from down here. Phara's head peeked over the bed as she whispered a timid "sorry."

"It's fine," I said as I sat up. Sila rested on the doorframe with a wide grin, watching the scene. "Did I interrupt something," she chuckled.

This reminded me of the first time Phara and I kissed. "Nope," I groaned, rubbing my head. "Are you sure? Because it seems like you were kissing," she smiled, and it was anything but nice.

"Matter of fact, it seems like you two have done more than just kiss behind our backs," she started with a glint in her eyes. It was like she was a predator, and we were her prey.

"You can't be upset that we kissed," I folded my arms, standing my ground. She walked to me with that same look and gripped my neck.

"I'm not upset you kissed. I'm sad I wasn't there," she pouted, her eyes focused on Phara. Phara blushed and looked away.

I wasn't paying attention to the conversation anymore. No, my attention was now on the hand that was placed around my neck.

I looked at her, and she was already looking at me. "Don't look at me like that, you little slut. We're at your mother's house," she whispered in my ear, tightening her grip.

"Well, move your hand," Jun walked in, joining the conversation. "Mmm, perhaps you're right," Sila let go.

My once-scrambled thoughts reorganized themselves, allowing me to think again.
