When I made it to Zhana's house, Amaya had somehow put Phara back to sleep. That was a week ago. Ever since Phara had been on her guard. Not only were we concerned, but so were Sila and Ye-Jun. She was barely talking to any of us.
She still wouldn't tell me what was scaring her so much that she continued to slip.
It had to be something big. Even the Jun and Sila situation didn't have her like this.
"Everything okay," I asked, glancing at her before placing my eyes back on the road. She set her phone away and nodded. She laid her head on the window and closed her eyes before sighing.
And to sleep she goes, I guess.
I finally pulled into the parking lot of the school. "Phara, wake up," I shook her awake. "Ready for school?" "Yeah," she sighed, opening the door.
"You know you can come to me about anything, right," I said. She nodded her head and made a beeline for the door.
Hey, I'm trying here! She won't say shit.
Before I could get deep in my thoughts, her phone went off. Constantly. Ping after Ping. Who was texting her nonstop? She would never tell me when I asked or show the text. When I did get ahold of her phone while she slept, there were no messages.
She pulled her phone out of her pocket, silenced it, and put it back. I took this as my chance.
I snatched her phone out of her back pocket. "Emrie, give it back," she begged, holding her hand out.
I shook my head and ran to the nearest door. Our first-period class. "Why are you running," Mrs. Johnson asked while I locked her door.
I ignored her and unlocked the phone. The messages were still coming through, and they were all blank. One last text came, and it had one word.
Hi
I immediately replied. "Who are you?" The text came back blank. "Ms. Quaza, are you ignoring me," Mrs. Johnson sassed. Yes, now shut the hell up. "Emrie, give me my phone!"
"Ms. Quaza, open my door!" I snatched the door and handed Phara her phone. I made my way to my seat and plopped down.
"For this behavior, Ms. Quaza, I would normally give detention, but you are a good student," she started. "I'm letting you off with a warning."
"I apologize. It won't happen again," I mumbled and laid my head on the desk. Who the hell was texting Phara?
Phara took her seat beside me, and I raised my head. "Who is that texting you?" "I don't know," she turned her head. "You're lying," I said, gripping her arm.
"Let go," she mumbled, pushing my hand.
As soon as the bell rang, in walked Rebecca, who looked as tired as the school building. I let Phara go as she made her to us. When Rebecca passed by, Phara laid her head down and went to sleep.
"Hey, Sister-in-law, where's Sebastian," she asked after taking a seat. "Don't call me that, and he's in the restroom," I turned to her. How does he use the restroom? Is it like normal guys?
"Why do you keep calling me sister-in-law," I asked, annoyed with the title. "Why did you fuck my sister," she retorted as Sebastian walked in. "Touché."
Not only did they have the same name and freckles, but they also had the same eyes too. Rebecca's wearing contacts. She said it would be weird for two people to have the same abnormally blue eyes. So she wore contacts.
I didn't tell her anything, either. She came to school Monday and kept giving a suspicious look, then asked, " Did you change your perfume?" Of course, I said no.
