Emrie

I walked out of the house, leaving Phara where she stood. It pissed me off how she could still think of that woman after everything she told me she did. How could you miss someone like that? But she was right. I don't know how she truly felt about it.

I still have my mother. We may not be on good terms behind closed doors, but I still had her.

My mother breathes the same air I get to. Her mother is nothing but ashes now. I don't know how it feels to go through what she went through. I want to know what she's going through, but if it means the only way would be to lose my mother, then I can stay clueless.

I know that might sound harsh, but would you risk losing your mom just to see someone else's point of view? I know some people would even say yes. Not everyone has a good relationship with their mom.

I shook those thoughts away and walked past my car and down the street. I watched as the lights started to pop on as I passed them. The irritating little gnats immediately swarmed it as soon as it came on. Glad they're up there and not down here.

I kept walking and kicking rocks that were in my path. I don't know where I am going, which is dangerous right now, but who cares?

As I kept walking, I tried to find a good, honest reason why I got mad at Phara, but I couldn't find anything reasonable. So, in short, I am upset at her for no reason. I scratched my forehead and sighed, realizing how late it had gotten when I looked at the time.

I left around six p.m., and it is now 10 p.m. I have been aimlessly walking for four hours. I was walking fast, so I'm guessing I walked around twelve miles.

I look around to take in my surroundings to see if I know where I am. I don't know where I am. I look back at my watch and ponder why I didn't bring my phone. Right, I didn't want Phara calling me. Idiot.

As I continue walking and looking, I see nothing but trees for as far as I can see.

From the looks of it, I am possibly in the middle of nowhere. How did I even get here? I don't remember any turns or paths I took to get here. The only place I see here is a wide two-story house. It was a white house, and even though it was dark, I could see the flowers adorning the stairs to the porch.

Clearly, someone is currently living here since the lights are on.

There are two cars in the driveway, but there is a garage as well. I pondered if I should knock on the door and ask for directions, but I decided against it and turned away. What? I'm not asking strangers for help if they live in the middle of nowhere.

"What are you doing out here," I heard behind me. Swiftly turning around, I see Ms. Volkov with a look of confusion. For some reason, I feel like that confusion is fake. "I could ask you the same thing," I fired back.

"Well, I live here," she smiled and tilted her head. Having her as my teacher, I was able to pick up some of her body language after watching her. Tilting her head meant she didn't like something. Or she could be amused.

I'll take the latter option.

"Oh," I mumbled, not knowing what to say. Ms. Volkov didn't say anything. She, once again, sat and watched. After a while, she finally spoke. "I do believe I asked you a question."

"I was just taking a walk, but I'll be leaving now. Sorry to bother you," I said, ready to leave her sight. Out of nowhere, Phara's story came to mind. "I see Phara finally told you what happened," she said as I took the first step to leave.

"How did you know," I turned back toward her. "Who do you think told her she could tell," she smiled with a look of amusement. Then a thought came to me, making me laugh out loud. "So I'm guessing you brought me here as well, correct," I asked once my laugh died. That was the thought.

"Phara went to sleep as soon as you left," she said, taking steps toward me. As she was walking toward me, her eye color started to change. The color began to blacken. Not like Phara said Ms. Admas eyes did.

"She said that you two argued. What was it about," she asked, taking small steps toward me. I don't know if she was supposed to be intimidating me, which she was, but I'll never show her.

"Nothing serious. It was stupid," I mumbled, cursing myself once I subconsciously stepped back. Once she saw I took a step back, she stopped walking towards me. She furrowed her eyebrows and tilted her head but didn't take another step.

"Are you afraid of me," she asked, sounding hurt. I don't know why, but it hurt me to see her hurt. Well, in this case, sound. "No," I said, telling the truth. Once the words left my lips, she perked up and walked towards me faster.

This time, I didn't move not one inch. "I'm glad," she beamed and held onto me. As she was hugging me, she ran her lips against my neck. "Very glad," she mumbled into my neck. I stood still as she held me, not knowing what to do.

"So, back to the question, what were you arguing about," she asked again while detaching from me. I looked at her eyes to see they were the same icy blue eyes that I met her with. I know I wasn't seeing things.

"Wha-who are you," I asked, correcting myself. "I asked you a question first," she said, tapping her shoulder. She's getting impatient. "She was thinking about her mom," I mumbled, rubbing my forearm. See, stupid reason.

"Her mother is now deceased, correct," she asked, tapping her chin. Nodding my head, I focused on trying to avert my eyes that kept finding their way to her. "Now it's your turn to answer my question," I said, trying to gain my confidence back.

"How about you come inside, and we continue talking there instead of out here," she proposed while using her thumb to point at the house. Every ounce of sense in me was screaming not to. Instead, I slowly nodded my head.

She smiled and told me to follow her.

Like the idiot I was, I followed her into the house.
