It was the day of Obe's funeral, and like everyone who attended the funeral, the weather was gloomy.

Zhana and Esmie stood under the tent, watching as their father was lowered into his grave with a numb feeling. The funeral seemed to go by in a flash for the two, and they had just caught up with the day.

"What do you think he's doing," Esmie asked her sister. Her voice was hoarse from all the crying she had done the previous night and the current day.

"Hopefully, he's with Mikal, resting," Zhana replied.

"Who's Mikal?" Esmie has never heard of such a name in their family.

"I'll tell you another day."

Their partners stood in the back watching them, unnerved that they couldn't do anything to heal the hole that was ripped out of them.

But they both had someone who could give them the support they needed.

Arms wrapped around them, and they both reacted by grabbing their partner's hand and kissing it.

The funeral was over hours ago, and Zhana had left, not wanting to keep Nemu out for too long, but Esmie had stayed a bit longer, thinking.

She had never wanted to go to college, but Obe wanted her to. She never saw the reason why she should. It seemed pointless to get something she would never use. Nothing would change her mind about her decision. That was until Obe passed, and she wanted to make him proud, even in his death.

"Phara," she called out. Phara looked up at her and waited for her to continue.

"Are you still going to that University?"

"Yeah, why?"

Phara recalled that Esmie was entirely against college, so why was she asking her about it?

"I'm going to go with you," she revealed, shocking Phara.

"Why'd you change your mind?"

"I want to make him proud for something I truly did. I don't feel like I ever did."

"You already did. I can tell he was proud of you the moment he held you. Even when he figured out his sperm had harmed a child, his image of you never changed. Don't think you ever disappointed him," Jun said as she walked to them.

"Jun's right. Only go to college if you want to, not because of someone else," Sila joined in.

Esmie thought about it. Did she really want to go to college on her own and was using her father as a coverup, or was it all for him? No, she wanted to go, and in the process of her choice, she would make him proud.

"I want to go because I want to."

"Well, it's a good thing you decided now. Admission closes next week. We can go home and put one in," Jun said.

"And I can have some strings pulled to get you in," Sila added, but Esmie quickly denied it.

"No, I want to get in on my own."

"Which I'm sure you will, with no help at all," Jun said, looking at Sila as she spoke. Sila raised her hands in surrender and agreed. "With no help at all."

Esmie weakly smiled at the three. She was glad they were here with her and that she had them. If she didn't have them, where would she be right now?

She looked back at her father's grave and nodded. You'll see me, right?

As she walked off, she heard a small whisper flowing through the wind. Always.

She heard it. Swiftly turning around, she frantically searched her surroundings until she spotted a figure in the far distance. I will always see you. And with the next gush of wind, it was gone. New tears flowed down Esmie's face as her eyes lingered in one spot.
