Phara
I was telling Emrie everything that happened that day, and she listened. Since we were at Zhana's house for the weekend, there wasn't anyone to interrupt or listen in.
She didn't twitch or anything while I talked. Instead, she sat quietly and listened. I'm starting to think she doesn't believe me, and I'm just wasting my breath.
I told her what happened in the office, in the parking lot, and how Mrs. Admas had been monitoring me all week. I barely talked to her that whole week because I knew if I did I would have spilled everything.
Mrs. Admas was there every night. At the same time every day, she would put me to sleep, and I couldn't wake up until she said so. She never did anything, though. She either sat in her chair and read a book or watched me.
After I finished, I waited to see what she would say, but she still didn't say anything. "Please say something," I begged after a while. "Ms. Volkov kissed me," she said with a blank face. "Huh," I was shocked.
"Ms. Volkov wouldn't let me leave only after she kissed me, not that I'm complaining," she said the last part to herself. "So they both know we kissed," she hesitantly asked. "Yes," I answered. "But they aren't mad that we kissed. They're mad we kissed without permission," she asked, making sure she understood correctly.
I slowly nodded my head, telling her she had it correct. "I want proof," she bluntly said. "I-I'm not chancing it," I stuttered. She got off the bed and started walking towards me. With each step she took forward, I took two backward.
Seeing the fear in my eyes, she nodded and sat back down. "So what did you and Ms. Admas do that had you blushing today," she crossed her legs.
"She kissed me again today," I said, looking away. Then I thought about it. "Well, more like made out," I said. After hearing that, a smile broke out on her face. "Weren't you just saying how you were afraid of her," she questioned in a laughing matter.
I mean, I still am afraid of Ms. Volkov because I can't read her at all. I don't trust her. Not with me and not with Emrie. Saying that doesn't mean I trust Mrs. Admas either. "Oh, and Mrs. Admas isn't a Mrs., just a Ms.," she said after a while.
"Are you serious," I asked. "Dead," she smiled. "Wait, back to what you said before. What do you mean she said we belong to them," she asked, quickly changing the subject back to the topic.
I'm honestly confused why she isn't freaking out. "I don't know," I shrugged my shoulders. I don't know. I'm still confused about it, but Ms. Admas hasn't said anything about it after mentioning it.
"So you know their names too," she asked, very intrigued. "Yeah, Ms. Admas's name is Sila, and Ms. Volkov's name is Ye-Jun," I said, trying to remember correctly. I think it was Sila and Ye-Jun. "Sila and Ye-Jun," she said, saying the names to get a feel of them.
"Yeah, that's them," I said and sat beside her. It's also weird how they never say anything to each other sometimes but seem to be talking. "Why us, though?", Emrie questioned after a while. Good question. There was nothing special about us. At least, I think there isn't.
There most definitely isn't anything special about me. I have an everyday boring life now that I no longer have to worry about my mother and her shenanigans. I know what she did was wrong, but I still miss the days with her when she didn't know about my sexuality.
As I was thinking of the past with my mother, I was thrown back on the bed. "What are you doing," I asked Emrie as she straddled my lap. "Shut up," she said and rested on my chest. Not saying anything, I lay there with her on me.
"What were you thinking about," she mumbled. "My mom," I whispered back.
No reason to lie to her.
Sometimes I'm happy she's dead, and sometimes I wish Zhana hadn't killed her. I wish I had the authority to choose what happened to her.
I can't complain. She was looking out for me. "Stop thinking about her," Emrie whispered. "That's easier said than done, Emrie," I sighed. No memories were left behind, either. They burned it all. It's not like much was left, anyway. My mother had sold almost everything else to buy booze.
Even my baby photos got sold to old bastards. Emrie leaned and looked at me with a look I couldn't decipher. "Try harder," she said and got up. What's gotten into her? She's not acting like her normal self.
She never acted like this when I thought of my mother before. She still has her mom to run to when she misses her. I don't. I only have a few good memories after her sister killed her.
"It's easy for you to say you still have your mom here to talk to," I mumbled, but she heard. "What did you say," she said and turned towards me with a glare. "Nothing," I mumbled and turned away from her gaze, which made me want to give in to her.
She slowly nodded her head and started walking away from me.
"What has gotten into you," I asked and walked behind her. She walked into her closet and started going through her clothes. She pulled out a grey skirt, a white bralette, and a grey oversized sweater.
"Where are you going that requires a skirt?"
Walking around me, she went into the bathroom and slammed the door.
A couple of minutes later, she came out dressed in the clothes. "Where are you going," I asked as she put on her shoes. Swiftly turning around, she grabbed me by my throat in a tight grip, but not enough that I couldn't breathe.
"How about you shut up and stay here like a good little girl, hm? Now, leave me alone so I can calm down and rationally think," she said, letting me go when I nodded. Shaking her head, she turned and left, slamming the door on her way out.
Well, she's never done that before.
