Emrie
Every school day, I am awakened by the most annoying sound my alarm could make.
I don't feel like going, but I know I have to. This is my last year, and I "have to make the most of it." Well, at least that's what Mom says, but I honestly couldn't care less about my last year of high school.
Well, I looked forward to seeing certain teachers, especially our astronomy teacher.
She came this year along with Mrs. Admas. I don't know if Mrs. Admas is actually a Mrs. We all just assumed she was. I mean, anyone would if she had a ring on her finger. We have never heard her talk about her partner. We also don't know if her partner is a female, male, or non-binary.
We know nothing about her other than she is our history teacher. The same goes for Ms. Volkov. We don't know anything about her, either.
They both popped up out of nowhere.
I slowly opened my eyes to let them get adjusted to the light after hearing my alarm go off. Man, this light is giving me a headache. Turning over, I am met with Phara's face. I watched her breathing pattern to see if she was still asleep. "Phara, get up," I shook her after seeing she was still asleep.
Since Zhana left again, Phara slept over, and we shared my bed.
It was proving to be challenging to wake Phara up since she wouldn't budge. All of a sudden, she jumped up and frantically looked around her.
"What's wrong," I asked, frantically looking around too. Taking in her surroundings, she visibly relaxed after seeing she was in my room. She pushed her curls out of her face and sighed.
"Nothing."
I don't know what happened, but Phara has been easily panicked after coming home from school one day. She would constantly look behind her and always kept her guard up. I wish she would talk to me about it, but when I brought up the topic, she timidly shook her head and said she couldn't.
"Are you okay," I asked, placing my hand on her shoulder. She has barely let me touch her either. When I do, she immediately detached herself from me, mumbling about not wanting to get in trouble, whatever that's about.
It shocked me last night when she asked to sleep with me. I mean, of course, I didn't turn her away. She's my best friend who, at the moment, seems to be going through something. She also appeared to be fidgety when she asked.
"I'm going to get ready for school," I mumbled. I got out of my heavenly space and walked into the bathroom. I didn't close the door because Phara and I had seen each other before, so I didn't see a problem. Plus, I was only brushing my teeth at the moment.
After brushing my teeth, I stripped off all my clothes. I stopped when I felt multiple pairs of eyes on me, but when I turned around, I only saw Phara looking.
I didn't mind. I mean it was Phara we've seen each other before.
I dismissed the look she gave me and looked at myself in the mirror, only to jump at what I saw. I had red marks everywhere. With my brown complexion, it wasn't that noticeable, but they were there.
They were on my breast, neck, and stomach, nowhere else. Snapping my head back towards Phara, she was gone, and when I looked back in the mirror, so were the marks.
I must be seeing things.
Turning the shower on, I let the water steam up before getting in. I don't know why, but I needed this. Once I stepped in the shower, I let out a slight moan. The burning water ran down my body forcing all my tense muscles to release.
Unfortunately, I couldn't stay in long because I had to get ready for school.
Being in the shower made my mind run wild, and I didn't feel like hearing my mom yell about being late. Getting out, I quickly got dressed in black jeans, a light blue polo shirt, and white Vans.
I looked in the mirror and frowned as I picked up one of my curls and let it drop. I don't hate my hair. I just don't know what to do with it today. "It's 7:30," Phara said, coming from nowhere while folding her sleeve.
I guess I have no time. Quickly ridding my brush, I threw my hair in a messy bun and ran down the stairs.
Where's my backpack?
I wondered this while looking at the empty rack where it usually sat.
"Phara took it outside already," my mother mumbled while sipping her tea with her legs crossed.
"Thank you," I smiled. Quickly kissing her forehead, I ran outside, but I didn't miss the slight frown that displayed on her lips when I did.
Phara indeed did have my backpack and was casually leaning on the passenger side door.
"Ready," I asked while unlocking the doors. She nodded and got in the car, with me getting in after her.
"Still don't want to talk about it," I asked after slightly turning towards her.
She turned towards me, and I could see how exhausted she was. The crazy thing was she was getting plenty of rest. She slept at the same time every night as if her body had set its own shutdown time.
"I want to talk about it. I truly do. I just can't," she sighed.
"Alright," I sighed as well and started the car.
On the ride to school, Phara kept bouncing her leg like she was anticipating something. I put my hand on her thigh, but she quickly pushed it off and shook her leg harder. Not trying to say anything, I bit my lip and just told myself she was going through something.
I was only trying to calm her.
I pulled into the parking lot, quickly found a parking spot, and got out without saying. I understand she's going through something, but she's pissing me off. How can I help as a best friend if she won't tell me anything?
Blinded by my anger, I ran into someone. I apologized and was about to leave, but the person grabbed my arm. "Are you alright," the person asked, sending a shiver down my spine. This voice was familiar. It was the same voice I looked forward to seeing every day.
I looked behind me to see Phara frozen in spot. That's when I turned towards the person to see Ms. Volkov. "I'm fine," I mumbled, trying to calm my racing heart. She looked at me, then Phara, who stepped back from her gaze. Tilting my head, I look at Ms. Volkov to see her still staring at Phara.
"Um, can I go now," I questioned, wanting to leave this awkward situation. She released her grip but never really let go. "See me after school, okay," she turned back to me and smiled, making me melt.
Slowly nodding to let her know I agreed, she let me go and walked off toward Mrs. Admas' class. Once she was out of sight, Phara ran to me with a panicked look. "What did she say to you," she asked, gripping my arms. So, it's okay for her to touch me, but I can't.
I tried to push her away, but she never let go. "To meet her after school, that's all. Now please, let me go," I huffed when she finally let me go. She was about to say something but quickly shut her mouth.
As I was about to walk off towards class, the bell rang. Great, I'm going to be late for class.
