Weeks passed, and so had prom, which they did not attend. It was now the last two weeks of school. Classes were ending for the seniors, and no one could be happier except for Rebecca.
"You're stuck in your head again. What's wrong," Esmie nudged Rebecca. Rebecca tried to give her the best smile she could muster but could only lift her lips in a small one. "Nothing, just excited for next week," she lied.
"That is the worst fake smile I have ever seen."
"Why are you here," Rebecca sat up from her bed. "Ever heard the term ask and you shall receive," Esmie sat up in Rebecca's bed. "Well, I asked your sister and received."
"That still doesn't explain why you're here."
"Did something happen between you and Mom?"
Though Esmie knows Malina is her mother, they both agreed she would continue calling her Malina until she wanted to. Esmie had been calling her Malina her whole life and vice versa, but Esmie didn't think it was fair, so she started calling her mom.
"Where's your twin," Rebecca asked, avoiding the question. She picked Sebastian up and rubbed his fur. At first, she thought it was weird, but she eventually got used to him being a cat.
"Therapy."
After everything had settled down, Malina offered therapy sessions to them. Of course, she wouldn't do them. It would be a friend of hers whose name is Noemi. First, Phara denied the offer, stating there was nothing wrong, but there was. When Sila and Jun sat her down, she accepted the offer. Today was her first day.
"What about you," Rebecca asked. Esmie shrugged her shoulders and thought about it. It was alright to talk it out, but actions speak better than the mouth in Esmie's case.
"Malina's my therapist," Esmie grinned. "So, you're getting your ass handed to you. Got it."
"Hey, I won once," Esmie groaned. "Probably out of a hundred," Rebecca laughed.
They both laughed at Esmie's failure until it died out.
"What are you doing when we graduate," Esmie spoke the question that lingered. Whenever the subject came up between them and anybody, Rebecca would either excuse herself or change it.
"Probably woo your mom," Rebecca plainly said. Esmie immediately punched her in the arm out of habit.
"You have to stop abusing me. I'm going to be your stepmom one day," Rebecca groaned and held her arm.
"Let's watch a movie," Esmie dodged the question.
For the rest of the day, Esmie and Rebecca watched movies until Esmie got a call.
Emrie's POV
I got off the phone and looked at Rebecca. She was barely awake until I got a call. Pretty sure she heard Malina. "Why are you so obsessed with my mom," I asked. I've always wanted to know. I don't want her to use my mom for a joke.
She smiled and looked into the distance.
"Malina to me is what you and Phara are to Sila and Jun," She started. "I don't care if I have to chase her to the ends of the earth. Just being around her is enough for me."
"What if she fell in love with someone else?"
"As long as she's happy," she shrugged. Rebecca, would you really shatter your own heart to see her happy?
"That's scary."
"You know Sila and Jun would do the same," she laughed it off. I know the thought of Malina loving someone else hurt her.
"I thought vampires had soulmates, though," I said, reverting to her answer from earlier. "Vampires," she hissed in disgust. "Are you not?"
"No, we're Sfphynx. It's like a mix between a vampire, a succubus, a siren," she explained. I nodded my head and hummed. That explains why Jun's voice makes me feel drunk on air.
"Vampires are like our twice-removed cousins from our dad's side."
"I hope you two get together," I confessed as I yawned, stopping her from her rant.
Rebecca immediately sat up and looked at me. All remnants of sleep had disappeared.
"Are you serious," she asked with excitement. "Why would I lie about this?"
I indeed wanted to see them both happy and with each other, they were. Mom just doesn't express it like Rebecca does.
"By the way, I'm sleeping over."
"No, the hell you aren't."
"What about Phara?"
"Giving them some time alone."
"You're not staying."
Though we argued about it, I stayed the night.
"Good morning, class," Mrs. Johnson said to the seven people in class. It was the last week. Who would be here?
It was Phara, Rebecca, Sebastian, and me on one side. The girl who invited me to her party, who I figured out, is Sana and her two friends on the other side.
"Since it's only seven of you here, please mind your manners and enjoy your time," Mrs. Johnson sat in her chair and went away on her laptop.
"What are we eating for lunch," Rebecca asked. Sebastian shrugged his shoulders and held up a lunch box. "Malina packed me a lunch, but I don't know what's in it." "Same here," I added.
"I would pay you for your lunches," Rebecca said, completely serious. "Here," I laughed and handed her a box as well. "She made on for you too."
She didn't pack one for Phara because Sila did. Sila and Jun have been making sure Phara eats three times a day. If not all, some would satisfy them. They started her with small portions and would gradually get bigger, but they still weren't that big.
No liquids until after.
"I'm eating with Sila today," Phara said.
"I don't think that matters anymore," Sebastion said, pointing to an ecstatic Rebecca. I'm afraid she won't eat it, but keep it as a family heirloom.
"You do know you have to eat it, right," Sebastian laughed.
Rebecca was offended by the suggestion. "How dare you speak such nonsense."
"If you don't eat it, she won't make you another one."
"I'll eat."
Lunch came around, and we were all in Sila's classroom.
"Eat, Rebecca," I taunted her. She gave me the best glare she could muster and reluctantly opened the box.
Inside, it contained pasta salad, fruit, and a slice of honey lavender cake.
I swear, if I opened mine and it was just a sandwich, I'm marching to that office.
I had an Italian chicken salad sandwich, fruit, and honey lavender cake.
I looked over to see Sebastian had the same as Rebecca.
I'm special.
"What do you have," I asked Phara. "Gyro," she hummed, biting into it.
I felt like we were in elementary as we discussed and swapped the food we had. We talked about random things and laughed.
Yeah, I think I'm going to miss this.
