"what are you doing?"
i turn around and see marie, one of the girls i share the big room with.
"i'm practice packing for when someone adopts me," i tell her, going back to packing my clothes in my bag.
she scoffs.
"no one's going to adopt a weirdo like you," she spits.
"then... why haven't you been adopted yet?" i smirk.
"because the right family hasn't came yet. you'll probably be stuck with some loser family."
i stop packing, leaving my back toward her.
"i'd be careful marie. you know what happened to the last girl that annoyed me," i tell her.
"right, you beat her up. that's how you solve your problems jiya, but i'm not scared of you."
i turn around and her expression falls into shock.
"my goal isn't to make you scared of me marie," i smile, walking toward her, "my goal is to make you so obscenely terrified that you have nightmares about me until you die."
"that-that's just all talk," she stutters, eyes widening as the gap between us continues to dwindle.
i punch her in the face and push her to the ground. she screams like a little girl as i straddle her and lay punches on her body.
she tries to fight back, but i have the upper hand.
i can hear the footsteps of the headmaster and someone else i don't recognize hurrying toward the room.
"jiya!" the headmaster yells as she pulls me off of marie. i breathe heavily, staring at her crying on the ground. "what are you doing?! what is your problem?!"
i catch eyes with a blonde lady who's smiling at me weirdly.
"her," the lady states.
mothers footsteps echo down the hall and into my room.
"what a bore mother," i sigh, "i'm sure matt is done with me," i tell her, not turning around.
"you should be more aware anna," she tells me, "what if it wasn't me?"
"trust me mother. i know your walk, even with weight on your back and a piece in your hand," i nod.
i'm not oblivious, though she thinks i am- constantly.
"i've taught you well," she says, pride in her tone.
hm...
"i'm aware of my surroundings," i tell her.
"finish packing. wheel's up in twenty."
"what's your endgame?" i ask, zipping my bag up and facing ann.
"i'll tell you when i know. i just need all of them."
"what if there's a shit ton?"
"one step at a time dear. we have a ten hour long plane ride. plenty of time to think of one."
"great," i grumble, sliding my bag on my shoulder, "ten hours with a newbie and chin," i say, annoyed, rolling my eyes.
"cheer up. maybe you'll find someone to kill when we land," she grins at me.
"chin."
she snorts.
"he's just rough around the edges."
"yeah, sharp cornered edges," i grumble. "let's go."
