i lay in my bed and just bask in the silence.

i don't want to go back to that world. i'm through with it. i'll stay in this state until i die. soraya has apple. juniper has persephone. alex and dominic have matt. i have no one.

i'm not needed. i'll slow everyone down.

someone knocks on my door and i whip my head toward it.

ethan stands there.

i sit up.

"come on bro, what are you doing?" he asks me with a sigh.

"i'm not going back e," i tell him.

"you have to."

"why?"

"they need you bro. they're waiting on you. they care for you."

"i'll slow them down."

"you won't," he shake his head, "you're projecting."

"but you don't know e. look at me now, making it hard on them still. if i go, it'll make things better."

"you seriously can't believe that."

"why do i have to stay? why did you go?"

"it was my time brother. we will see each other again. i promise that, but it's no time soon. you have a duty to those people to wake up and be a team player," he asserts.

"without you though. without my family! i know going back means being with a family, but i want my family."

he comes in and sits next to me.

"understand this gray, we have given you the experience to take with you to your new family. they need your love and your grit and your intelligence and survival skills."

"can you just stay with me? for a little bit? just until i'm ready?" i ask him.

e gives me a small smile.

"yeah. i'll stay. fill me in on what's happened since i've gone."
