Deva quietly ate her lunch as she read her book.
She rarely went to the cafeteria but she didn't want to eat anything that was at her dorm.
It was always awkward to go to the cafeteria. It was always too loud for her.
Deva focused her eyes on a plate that was placed in front of her, making her look up at the person that had taken up the seat.
"Hey, Dev." Jake said with a full mouthful of a piece of bread.
Deva stared at him for a couple of seconds, before looking over at the table where he usually sat at, where all of his friends and his rumored ex-girlfriend sat.
She then looked back at Jake, who only raised his eyebrows.
"Why are you sitting here?"
"Wow. Rude." He joked as he shook his head.
"No, I don't mean it like that. It's just- You don't normally sit here." She said quietly making Jake give her a small smile.
"You looked lonely, so I came."
"I wasn't lonely."
"Oh. Anyways," Jake trailed off making Deva smile in amusement. "What are you reading?"
Deva swiftly bent the corner of her page to remember her spot and passed the book to Jake, who took it with curiosity.
"Anna Dressed in Blood. Sounds dark."
"Not as much as you think." Deva shook her head, making Jake look up at her.
"Then tell me about it."
"Um- Well, it's about a ghost hunter and he has this very specific powerful entity that he wants to get rid of. You can guess her name is Anna."
Jake hummed as he stared at the cover.
"Horror books are not for me." He said as he shook his head, passing the book back to Deva who chuckled.
"It's not scary at all. It's more romance than horror." She spoke as she sipped some of her soda.
"You should read it for me sometime."
"Why don't you read it yourself?" Deva smiled as she watched Jake shrug. "No particular reason?"
"I just think it'd be nice to hear you read it for me. You have a nice voice."
Deva didn't know what to say at the compliment, making her look down at the table. Jake smiled softly as he secretly stole one of her french fries.
His smile dropped slightly as he spotted Charles walking into the cafeteria.
"There's your date."
Deva looked up at his statement, and looked behind her, seeing Charles sit with his friends.
She took her gaze off him and looked at Jake, who's gaze was already on her.
"Yeah." She said under her breath as she bit her lip.
Jake placed his hands inside his jacket pockets as he looked at Charles, deep in thought.

Deva opened the main door of the building, avoiding the gaze of the security guard at the front door.
"Thank you. I forgot my key." Jake lied as he walked inside.
He went straight to the elevator as Deva went down the hallway to her room.
They were both lucky that Deva's building was co-ed. There were men's dorms on the second floor, so it wasn't weird to see a guy in the building.
