Deva tapped her fingers together as she laid on the couch in the library basement. Her roommate was too busy playing video games to notice that she needed peace and quiet to think, but even having the quiet that she needed wasn't helping.
She heard the elevator doors open, making her turn her head to look.
Her heart raised as she spotted Jake with a book already in his hand.
She sat up slightly but stopped as she spotted Iris also walking next to him.
Deva felt betrayed for some reason, although she had no right to.
She laid back down, avoiding looking at them as she turned her gaze back to the ceiling, feeling that familiar knot on her throat.
Deva tried to think about her answer to Charles, but she couldn't even think about that when she could hear their feet shuffling to sit down on the other side of the basement.
Why did he bring her here?
She closed her eyes softly as she tried to calm herself down, wondering if she should just stand up and leave.
Deva couldn't resist the urge to look their way, and saw Iris' head on Jake's shoulder, making her quickly look away again and close her eyes.
That shouldn't bother you Deva. It shouldn't bother you. Do not let it bother you.
She chanted in her head as it was so silent she could hear her faint whispers in his ear.
She opened her eyes slightly again, only for the tears she was holding to fall, as she sees their lips connect.
Cut it out Deva, stop feeling this way...
They seemed to not know that she was there, and it was making her terrified to move.
She crossed her arms over her chest as she waited a little bit more, trying to build up her courage and get out, but that would mean walking past them.
She jumped as her phone rang, making her curse under her breath.
Jake and Iris' eyes turned to her as she picked up the phone.
Jake's gaze met hers for a few seconds, but then he looked back at his book as if he had never seen her.
Deva felt the knot in her throat tighten even more, to the point where she couldn't even hear her roommate's voice in her ear.
She quickly took the chance and grabbed her bag, walking towards the stairs instead of the elevator to leave quicker.

{Do you have an answer for me yet?}
Deva stared at the text from Charles as she raised her eyebrows.
She clicked off her phone and looked up, coming face to face with Jake's door.
She took in a small breath before knocking lightly.
She closed her eyes softly as she waited and opened them quickly as the door opened.
"Are you looking for Jake?"
"Yes."
"Come in, he's in his room."
Deva smiled at Jake's roommate before going down the hall as she took a deep breath.
I've never done this before...
She said to herself as she nervously closed her eyes.
She felt them almost fill with tears out of nerves and she felt like running away as she knocked carefully.
