Aizawa scraped the side of the bowl, scooping up the last grains of rice that stuck to the plastic dome before placing the spoon into the child's mouth, listening to her hum in delight as she finished off her meal
"Thank you" the girl mumbled after she swallowed, cupping her glass in both hands as she drank from a straw that the teacher had retrieved to refrain from a spill like last time.
"No problem kid" he yawned, rolling out his stiff shoulders. "Are you full now?"
"Mhm mhm" she nodded as she settled the cup down, bundling up in her blankets
"Do you think you are ready to see a doctor today then"
"Doctor?" the girl mumbled
"Remember, you said you wanted to see the doctor yesterday" the ravenette reminded
"Doctor make ouch go way right"
"The doctor will make your pain go away, yes"
"The doctor nice"
"Mhm"
He watched as the child contemplated once more, seemingly forgetting fragments of their previous conversation. "The doctor is really nice, and I'll be right next to you"
"I memember" the girl sighed. "I wan doctor to make ouch go way" she mumbled staring at her bandaged arms. "Ouch feel yucky"
"Is it uncomfortable" he asked
"itchy and, and b-burny" the child winced. "I- I wan scratch but Eri say no b-because red one, red one spill from me a-and that bad" she explained
"That is bad" Aizawa said "but next time, if it hurts a lot tell me okay, because I could've gotten a doctor to see you earlier"
"I scared of doctor then though" the youngling mumbled. "B-but Aiwawa promise to stay so I- I less scared of doctor now"
Smiling at her words Aizawa reached to grasp her hands, staring at the little tan Band-Aids that covered the pads of her fingers. White wrapping starting at her wrists and extending up her arms and he wondered how far down they travelled her torso, seeing as he legs were also covered in places. "I'll make sure the doctor helps you feel better okay, so from now on tell me when you don't feel good"
The girl nodded, letting her hands fall from his grasp before she let her searing limbs calm from the coolness of the sheets. Pulling the blanket up to her shoulders she huffed. "Doctor come now?" she asked, "ouch bad"
The throbbing of her skin had grown dull, and her body had grown accustomed to the pain, but even though she tried to ignore it, the pain over the past few days only seemed to increase. Her skin felt hot and itchy, and whenever she walked a certain way, spindles of pain would travel up one of her legs like lightening
It hurt so bad, so so very bad but she kept from saying anything. Aizawa not someone she trusted, but he seemed to prove her wariness futile because time and time again he managed to soothe her. The man scared her though, the scale of fear to like tilted, the droplets of doubt evaporating and raining into the pile of love
He cared for her she thought. Not once had he yelled at her, not once had he pinched or prodded at her injuries to shut her up from sobbing. When she screamed at him he talked to her gently. It scared her, but only because she was afraid this was a dream. That this scenario of kindness and love all a hallucination
Though she never spoke about it, every time she lay to rest she prayed that she wouldn't wake back up in the facility. Every time she awoke she was scared, the pristine room too similar to the room of needles and knives. Though every time her eyes fluttered open and fear flooded her system, the sight of Aizawa resting on a chair beside the door only meters away calmed her
He was her constant, the only thing keeping her grounded. If this scenario was only a scene she made up in a painful grief stricken state, she prayed to never snap out of it, wanting to live in a world where her stomach was always full. Wanting to live without those screaming at her, without those scolding her.
She didn't want to see anymore blood on her hands, whether it be her own or a victim of her violence. She didn't want to face anymore enemies. She didn't want to be placed in kill or be killed scenarios
She just wanted to feel safe
To be safe
"Aiwawa" she called and watched as his eye brows raised in question. "Ouch go way soon"
"Yeah the doctor will be here soon, I promise"
'I promise' he uttered and everything after that she would believe whole heartedly because a promise couldn't be broken, it shouldn't be broken
Eri promised to stick by her side, and even though the girl couldn't see the older now, she trusted Aizawa. She trusted him enough to believe that Eri was safe, for if she couldn't trust Aizawa then she'd be all on her own, and she'd rather trust wrong then face everything alone
Simply humming the child burrowed her face into her pillow, letting her eyes flutter shut. "Aiwawa call when doctor here"
"Are you going to sleep"
"I try"
"Do you want me to turn off the light"
"Aiwawa okay with no light"
"I'm fine with it"
"Then yes please" the child mumbled, already feeling drowsiness take over
Sleep was her only relief to the pain. Physical aches couldn't harm her when her body was shut off, and only sometimes could her pains haunt her in her dreams
"Good night" she heard his voice call
"Nigh night" she could hear herself mumble
