It felt as though the stress that had been weighing him down for weeks alleviated in a snap. It was simply a few curt words from his teacher and yet he could feel the knot in his chest loosen, his tightened lungs expand and the worries that bore into his brain every night disperse.
"Eri is awake."
Classes were still paused, the school in a break period. He roamed the halls of the dormitory with a gleeful grin that his friends had yet to tell was filled with stress. His shoulders would hunch, form drooping lower to the ground with each sluggish step as he made his way up and down the halls, only ever leaving his room for meals.
His friends didn't seem to notice, and if they did he was none the wiser. Their glances didn't seem to hold pity so he could only believe he was holding himself together.
There was a stone weighing heavy on his conscience.
The morning he found out the (h/c) haired child awoke his heart fluttered with so much joy he thought his cheeks would tear from how widely he grinned. Anticipation gnawed at his nerves simply waiting for the moment Eri would pop up too and he could finally feel at ease and yet weeks passed and there was nothing.
His frantic messages sent to Aizawa were only met with 'no' as every morning he questioned with a hopeful heart, is she awake yet?
Midoriya knew he couldn't visit the younger, not yet, Mirio barely managed to be granted a visitation and the green haired boy still had no clue as to why the blond was accepted and he was still denied.
What did he have to do.
It chewed at him as he tried to go to sleep, restlessness always finding it's way back to him as he had to lay there puzzled and desperate, why couldn't he see them, why was Eri still asleep.
It felt as though every morning was the same routine, a message off to Aizawa as he brushed his teeth before changing clothes and exiting the dorm. He would walk over to the track only to run lap after lap, trying to clear his muddled brain, his legs would keep going until his phone would ring, buzzing, an alarm, the only thing that kept him from running the entire morning away.
When he returned he'd hop in the shower and then scuffle towards the dining hall. He avoided Kaachan's eyes and offered a polite smile to anyone who called out a greeting. He sat at a table with Uraraka, Iida and Todoroki, listening to their words. He would snicker out a laugh at absurd comments that left Todoroki's mouth, leaving Iida gagged before he continued his rant.
After breakfast he'd train some more, sometimes a couple of his classmates would join. He'd spar with friends or simply lift weights before returning to his room late into the evening. He often opted to take a late breakfast rather than eat lunch thus once he returned he'd shower, eat dinner, and head up to his room and read, study, maybe even lift some more weights, anything to keep his mind from devouring him.
His brain was his worst enemy, plotting torturous outcomes, scaring him. Fear haunted him, clouding his peripherals as every where he looked he felt as though he would trip and every thing would be a dream, that he'd be standing right back in the battle field as Chisaki sent stone spikes bursting from the floor.
