ashton left around four the next day for another photoshoot, and maybe april cried but he promised to come back tomorrow to take her to school. i leaned my head back and sighed until i heard my phone ring.

i blindly reached over and answered, regretting it as the person on the other line started to shout.

"you incomitant asshole! first you forget to charge your phone and then you answer the day i was supposed to bring april back! do you not remember our deal? i will take this to court you-"

"sophie!" i shot up from the couch, seeing april peek her head out through her door. "i- i got caught up okay? you can have her this entire week and weekend. just calm down and pick her up from school tomorrow."

my ex wife calmed down on the other line. "fine, bye, calum." and the line went dead.

"i have to spend a week with mommy?" april asked, i looked down to see her sitting on the floor in front of me. i ran a hand through my hair and sighed. "i'm sorry, michael was supposed to drive you over."

"why can you never take me?"

"april you know why."

she nodded slowly. the only reason michael took her over was because i vowed to never see her face again. i couldn't handle it and the first time i dropped her off i broke down and almost caused an accident on my way back.

i sat on the floor with april, watching her calmly as she played with her skirt. a small smile worked it's way on my face as i found a way to cheer her up. "guess who's watching you today."

"who?" she asked curiously.

before i could answer her, someone knocked at the door and i got up from the floor. april trailed behind me as i unlocked the front door and opened it, smiling at luke.

"lukey!" april nearly screamed and tugged him inside.

"april please behave, it's bad enough he teaches you at school for seven hours."

april turned around and narrowed her eyes at me. i narrowed them back and she stopped in defeat. "you two are too cute, i'll call you if she causes any trouble." luke chuckled.

after saying goodbye and promising april i'll be back soon, i left. i made my way out of the lobby and onto the busy streets of chicago. the store i got the job at was only a ten minute walk, so by the time i got there i was twenty minutes early.

i walked over the front counter, the place was white walls and expensive clothes. i looked down at my black skinny jeans and nirvana tank top and sighed. "are you calum hood?"

"that's me." i snapped my head up to see a girl with white dyed hair. [pfft no i'm not jealous and putting characters w my dream hair color in what no]

"here's your uniform and name tag, you can change in the dressing rooms and keep your clothes behind the desk." she instructed. once i changed inside the (really nice) dressing rooms, i adjusted my name tag and fixed my hair in the mirror.

"perfect, but your tie is on wrong." the girl giggled, fixing my tie for me. "okay, my name is [jeff] tyler. there's only three rules so don't worry about getting fired."

i nodded for her to continue. "don't be an asshole to the customers no matter how many times they try to shove an expired coupon in your face, just call me over and i'll help you. do your job, you run the cash register and help restock the clothes. and most importantly," she stopped and pointed to the starbucks across the mall. "don't go over there unless you're going to bring me something back."
