i nodded softly, ashton using his thumb to whipe the tears under my eyes. we sat in a comfortable silence, ashton's arms wrapped around me as he closed his eyes and fell asleep.

"do we have to?"

"yes."

ashton stomped his feet and pouted slightly, crossing his arms and refusing to go. "please? i promised i'd volunteer today." i sighed, running a hand through my hair because it was like i was dealing with april all over again.

michael said they fired a lot of people at the daycare and now it was just him and luke running the store. but today luke was teaching and he couldn't make it so i promised michael i would help him out.

"ashton please, i'll give you anything just get out of the house." i argued, grabbing him arm and tugging him towards the front door. i wasn't having anyone's shit today either.

"anything?" he asked, i turned around to see a slight smirk on his face.

"anything." i held out my pinky finger and he latched his with mine and we shook on it.

ashton wore sunglasses over his face so no one would recongnize him. the walk was silent except the sounds of chicago's busy streets. soon enough though the daycare came into view and ashton trailed behind me up the steps.

"you're a little late." michael chuckled, pointing to all the sleeping kids on the floor. i raised an eyebrow at him. "you managed to put twenty-three kids to sleep all by yourself?"

michael bit his lip slightly and nodded. i narrowed my eyes at him before pushing passed him and looking behind the counter they had to check kids in. just as thought, there was a half eaten vanilla cake with a pitcher of milk next to it.

"seriously?"

"seriously."

what was it, the national fault in our stars day? i looked behind me to see ashton sitting on one of the small stools. i laughed quietly, his ass was way, too big for the poor thing. "they should be up any minute now though. they don't sleep forever." michael chuckled weakly.

i nodded and hopped on top of the counter. the kids woke up around an hour later and i quested if michael gave them sleeping pills and ate the cake for himself.

"i swear i didn't." the pale boy put his hands up in defense, only to wrap them around the small child in front of him before they could run off. it was a little boy around six and one of the requirements was to have a person around him the whole time he was here.

"charlie please stop fighting me, you know you love me." michael mumbled and picked the child up. the boy only pressed a sloppy kiss to michael's cheek and i laughed as michael rubbed his wet cheek on his shoulder to get it off."i think he likes you." i chuckled.
