thoughts on ashton's job?

i slammed the front door shut, throwing my keys on the table and collapsing on the bed. april was at school and she threw a fit because ashton had to go to a photoshoot. i ran my fingers through my hair tiredly before changing my clothes and leaving the house again.

the walk to the mall wasn't far and by the time i got there tyler was behind the counter helping a group of girls. she was wearing the white dress i had told her to get and i called her name out making her look up at me. i motioned to the dress and she nodded and smiled.

i took tyler's spot behind the counter while she folded some clothes and sighed, already wanting the day to be over with.

"daddy!" the familiar sound of my daughter's voice rung through my ears and i closed the classroom door behind me and lifted her up. i quickly kissed her cheeks and put her back down, waving over to luke but furrowing my eyebrows when seeing his eyes were blodshot.

"wait here." i motioned for april to go sit at a desk before walking over to luke's desk. the classroom was empty since i was a little late picking april up. "did something happen?"

luke quickly shook his head no but i rolled my eyes and turned the chair he was sitting in around. when he didn't look up i plopped myself down on his lap, looking back to see april was playing on the floor out of sight.

i grabbed luke's chin, making him look up at me. "what happened?"

"i-i left."

i raised an eyebrow.

"michael wanted a kid.." i quickly slapped luke across the face. "and what did you say?"

"i said yes!" he rushed out, holding his cheek slightly. "a-and we went to look up the foster home that charlie was in but the building was torn down a week ago and the website didn't exist."

"why did you leave then?"

"i asked why he never told me sooner and he thought i'd say no."

i got off luke and made him stand up, pulling him into a hug. "he was scared, luke. you still barely just got back off your feet he thought you still needed some time."

luke nodded softly. "fuck."

i slapped his arm. "don't f.ucking swear you asshole and go f.ucking apologize to michael."

once luke pulled me into one last hug we left, making our way back home. april's hand was laced with mine and she tugged on it softly making me look down at her. "something wrong?"

"can we go out to eat?" she asked with pleading eyes and i rolled my eyes at the act but nodded. we turned the corner, deciding on a small coffee shop. no, april wasn't allowed coffee till she was ten but she was allowed coffee cake.

we sat down at a table by the window and i told her to wait while i ordered. "can i get something?"

"a small coffee cake and a caramel latte please." i smiled, but stopped when i recognized harry, our waiter from the chinese restaurant. "you work here too?"

"i'm sorry?" harry looked at me confused and i motioned to april sitting by the window and his eyes widened. "i remember you now. your kid got me a boyfriend."

i chuckled lightly. "what's his name?"

"louis. i'll go get you your things now." i nodded and waited patiently. once harry was done i thanked him and paid before walking back over to our table. april was bouncing, licking her lips as i placed the small cake in front of her. "thank you."
