TW: Suicide, and a Cover-Up.
SUNNY and BASIL look up at MARI's lifeless body, swaying from side to side. They exchange a nonchalant look, seemingly unfazed by the fact that they have just taken a life. They finally killed MARI, they did it! Now she couldn't cause any more harm towards them. She deserved this. She deserved it. She deserved it. She deserved it. She deserved it. She deserved it. She deser- SUNNY continues to stare as BASIL puts his hand on his shoulder, shaking SUNNY back into reality.
'SUNNY, we... we should probably leave. We don't want to get caught...', BASIL reminds SUNNY. SUNNY nods as they head inside. BASIL rushes to the stairs, realizing that he had forgotten to clean up the blood and dispose of the broken violin. Having done extensive research on murder prior to this, he knew exactly what needed to be done.
'Could....you get the hydrogen peroxide? ...I uhm need it.', BASIL kneels next to the bloody mess. SUNNY retrieves the hydrogen peroxide from the kitchen's medicine cabinet and hands it to BASIL along with a towel. BASIL pours the hydrogen peroxide onto the towel and starts wiping away the blood. He scrubs and scrubs, trying to get rid of the blood staining the wooden floor. SUNNY picks up the broken violin, staring at what he had done. He had felt no regret only happiness. BASIL stands up, finished cleaning the blood.
'Ah SUNNY! Do you maybe wanna keep the violin? If we stage the suicide just right the cops might be fooled.', BASIL turns around, patting off his shorts. SUNNY shakes his head, there was no need for him to keep something so useless. He was going to move on and show his now-dead sister that he could live just fine without her. He felt no remorse for her and neither should BASIL. After looking down, SUNNY heads towards the backyard once more and throws the violin as far as he can into the forest before quickly returning inside. Meanwhile, BASIL is washing his hands and shyly waves to SUNNY before grabbing his hand and guiding him out of the house with a smile.
'While you were gone, I forged a fake suicide note. The cops should believe it, I uhm think...', BASIL says as he goes to HERO and KEL'S house. Turning to SUNNY, BASIL smiles before knocking on the door. KEL's mom opens the door with a warm smile, welcoming them inside.
'Hello, Mrs. [REDACTED]! Are KEL and HERO ready? Or have they left?', BASIL asks nervously.
'I believe they should be waiting in the PARK. They left just a few minutes ago.', KEL'S mother says while cleaning the dishes. SUNNY stands by the doorway, he looks down.
'Oh, okay! T..Thank you!', BASIL waves goodbye before heading back outside.
'Have fun at the recital boys!', KEL'S mother smiles at SUNNY.
SUNNY follows behind, as they walk in silence. SUNNY stares down at his feet as he walks, thinking about all sorts of things. What should he do now? What's going to happen if he gets caught? What...if his parents find out? All these thoughts circled and filled SUNNY'S head. They pass multiple stop signs as they finally arrive at the park. KEL, HERO, and AUBREY were talking to each other. KEL looks to his side to see BASIL and SUNNY approaching.
'Yoo! Hey guys! Where have ya been? We've been waiting!', KEL grins like usual. He always was a beam of sunshine. Always making others happy was his specialty. AUBREY huffs as she smacks KEL on the head.
'They were probably getting ready, duh! Jeez, do you have a brain in that head of yours?', AUBREY crosses her arms. KEL gets defensive as they both start to fight, going back and forth about who's the smarter one. HERO as usual breaks up their little fight.
'Guys cmon, it's SUNNY and MARI's recital! Be more nicer to each other.', HERO says with a nervous smile. 'By the way SUNNY, where is MARI? She should be with you guys, right?', HERO separates KEL and AUBREY, going into the middle. SUNNY and BASIL look at each other, they both frown.
'W...Well...uhm...we need you guys to come with us...I think it's better if you just see for yourself..', BASIL says before walking with SUNNY back to the house. The others are confused, deciding to follow the two boys. BASIL and SUNNY move aside to allow the others to have a view as they open the sliding door leading to the backyard.
MARI was hanging.
KEL and AUBREY were both horrified, but it was AUBREY who began to cry first. She collapsed onto her knees, sobbing uncontrollably. Meanwhile, KEL was in a state of shock, but quickly moved to console AUBREY. HERO...was broken as he stared at MARI, tears streaming down his face.
'..MARI...? Oh..god MARI...Why..?', HERO had mumbled to himself. He slowly approached MARI before stopping.
Overcome with emotion, he drops to his knees and tears stream down his face onto the soft, pale green grass. '..Why did you do this..? MARI...Why...', HERO mumbles again, he begins to sob harder.
BASIL and SUNNY look at each other, maybe right now wasn't the best time to tell them. They hold each other's hands as they watch the others sob. BASIL squeezes SUNNY'S hand, SUNNY looks at BASIL. His eyes widened as BASIL started to cry silently. Why...was BASIL crying? He felt the same way too, right? He wanted MARI gone just like him, so why was he crying? SUNNY didn't understand, he couldn't understand. MARI was a terrible person, she didn't deserve to live. So why was BASIL wasting his tears on someone that he knew was terrible?
He felt guilty, didn't he...?
