An hour or so has passed since Sophia arrived with Josh and Liam. When they got the invite to go she had pushed the idea out of her mind, she couldn't go to his birthday, it wasn't right for her to be there, it would give him the wrong idea.
But that's what puzzled her the most. It wasn't really the wrong idea when she wanted to be here with him, when she knew she was only torturing herself for not going. She had missed him since saying goodbye to him at the Christmas party.
He didn't even try and make a move on her, he had obviously tried to respect the words that had been said between them, but in the back of her mind his words resonated.
She was being stubborn, and she knew that, but she couldn't allow herself to feel things for him with the fear that it could all go wrong, that's why a part of her hadn't wanted to come tonight.
However, after Liam and Josh had decided almost instantly they were up for a night in the capital she thought fuck it and agreed to go with them. Although she didn't want to tell Mason, for once she thought it would be a nice surprise, which from the look on his face it was, but the other side of her was worried she would chicken out last minute, but she didn't.
Her eyes hadn't left his since she had arrived, they had spent a bit of time getting to know his group from back home, she hadn't ever met Woody before but had heard a lot about him, so it was nice to put a face to a name.
She also got to meet the rest of the 'gang' as he called them that she had heard so much about but only briefly met some at events.
The only person she hadn't met was Daisy, his ex. She had heard about her of course but would quite like to meet the infamous girl that seemed to be the double of Mason.
She was quite intimidated by that idea, when he said they were still friends, well best friends he put it. She just wanted to see if she had any competition there, but a part of her thought she was probably being silly.
Mason had stood with his arm draped over her shoulders as they chatted away to a few of the lads, a couple taking aback by how cool and calm 'Coach Hunt' was off the pitch than on the pitch, Jack even joked that she scrubbed up really well, which had him blushing and digging holes, telling her he wasn't saying she didn't always look pretty, but just not as pretty, but he didn't mean it like that, before Mason stepped him and told him to just quit speaking which had the whole group laughing.
Not long after midnight Mason managed to drag Sophia out to the rooftop terrace, the cold January air hitting them as soon as they stepped outside, but he needed to be alone with her, even if it was just for a couple of minutes.
"Thank you for coming tonight Soph" he said with a lazy smile on his lips as he stood facing her, his left hand lightly touching her hip while his right hand played with her hand, lightly brushing his fingers over hers.
"You don't need to thank me" she said with a smile, as her spare hand ran up his bare lower arm that was touching her hip, feeling his faint arm hairs under her touch "to be honest I'm not sure why I came" she admits, she doesn't mean it in a bad way, she just isn't sure what she was hoping to get out of this night.
"Yes you do" he said with a smirk as her eyes flicked up to his, taking in his now cocky expression as she let out a small chuckle "just say it, say you like like me, like the way I like like you" he knew it sounded stupid the way he said it but he couldn't just say like him, he already knew that. But it was more than that, but possibly not quite lust and he didn't know how to word it so like like worked.
Sophia lets out a pent-up laugh, hearing how childlike she sounded, he truly was a contradiction. How could someone who had so much raw sex appeal and could make her underwear practically become redundant with just one glance or the tone of his voice also say things that made her heart flutter so hard.
"Did Mason Mount just say he like liked me?" she put her hand that was on his arm to her chest, a fake shocked expression her face with the slight smirk as she takes in his words.
"Soph, you're meant to be the smart on out of us" he laughs himself, his hand touching her hip gripping it tighter now, pulling her body towards him "you should know I have like liked you since almost the first day I met you" he smirks at her as he finally admits to her how long his crush on her has been, even if it did bring him guilt for thinking about another girl when he was with Daisy, he had to say it out loud.
She brings her hand back down from her chest and places it back on his arm, higher up now, against his bicep, feeling the pulsing as he flexes his muscles slightly which makes her smirk "do you mean that?"
He smiles at her, his hand that had been playing with hers takes a firm grip of it, squeezing it slightly "Yes of course" he said as he lowers his forehead slightly "I'm just shit with words sometimes Soph" he admits, he knows sometimes he can't quite get out what he means, especially when he's drunk.
"I don't think you give yourself the credit you deserve" she said to him while looking up into his eyes, the brown almost not visible, looking so much darker than usual "what you said at the Christmas party still replays in my head" she smiles at him "its probably why I'm here tonight"
His forehead now rests against hers as he goes to open his mouth, wanting to ask her if she has finally decided to give them a go, but instead his mouth seeks hers out, placing a light kiss upon her lips as he feels her mimic him. She goes to bring her hand up to the back of his head to draw his lips in further as the doors squeak open and they part slightly before seeing a couple of his Chelsea team mates head outside.
He looks down at Sophia and see's that her smile is still on her lips "where you staying tonight?" she asks in a whispers as he smirks at her.
"Probably gonna head back home why?" he asks, hoping just slightly that this might be going the way he wanted it to.
"Meet me at my hotel room" she feels a surge of confidence come over her, it might be the alcohol or his admission but she can't let another night end with them not doing anything about it "then we can pick up where we left off" she smirks as he runs his tongue across his lips.
"Okay beautiful" he said as he looked down at her, once again whispering so those around didn't hear.
She smiles at him as she turns to head back in, leaving him to talk to his friends. She knew that by coming here tonight she would want to end up going home with him, she had been replaying September in her head so many times she was practically desperate for it to happen again and after him telling her how he felt, maybe she did need to do a little bit more when it came to him and her.
He watched her walk away, his heart was beating almost out of his chest and his semi was struggling to be hidden in his tight jeans.
In his wildest dreams he didn't expect he would see her here tonight, but here she was, and maybe this time they would actually make a go of things, maybe this could be the start of something.
