Chapter 27: "She's my girlfriend, Jasmine"

JASMINE CORNFIELD'S POV
After an early toast to Kendra, we engaged in different conversations, we laughed and ate.

It was really fun and overwhelming for me to be on TV. Rick's mum is a really strong woman.

"Thank you all so much for tuning in and watching. God bless you all, have a blessed night" she says.

We all wave at the camera, smile and the show ends.

"Well, I'll be concluding this dinner. Thank you all for coming, it means a lot to us and our daughter hopefully"

"Thank you all for honouring her. I'm not a man with many words but, I just have to thank you for coming at least"

"It truly means a lot. I'll be giving another toast to Kendra, family and friends" Rick's father says, raising his glass of wine and we raise ours too, for the toast.

"To Kendra, family and friends" we chorused.

Rick decided to take me on a house tour in his huge mansion.

It's really beautiful. He showed me all the rooms including Kendra's.

"Is this your brother?" I stare at the picture in shock. That's Ian. Ian from Crescent High except I'm mistaken.

"Yup! He's such a dick" he responds. "What's his name?" I asked, curiously.

"Ian, he's no good. Don't worry bout him" Rick smiles. Wait.. Rick and Ian are brothers. Wtf?!

"Where is he?" I ask. "He's a dick so, he bailed out an important family dinner" he tells me.

"Why would be so that?" I say. "Beats me, he's so dumb" Rick rolls his eyes.

They must really hate each other.

I refuse to believe that's Ian, my Ian. They do say in this world, we all have look alike.

Maybe it's his look alike. I hope cause I'm not ready to meet Ian after these years.

"You okay Jas?" Rick asked me. "Yeah I'm fine" I tell him and force a smile.

"Okay sure. Let's see my parents before you go" he smiles back at me.

"Oh sure" I tell him and follow his lead. When we get back to the dining table, Rick's mum is waving the guests as they leave. Most people are gone already.

"Rick darling" his mum calls to me. "Yes mum" he smiles at her.

"Has your brother called you?" she asks, worried about her child.

"Nope. You should know he wouldn't call me mum" Rick says coldly. "You two are brothers act like it please" she begs him.

"Sure sure. When he gets back, we'll try but I'm sure he's fine" he tells her. "Are you sure?" his mum says, sadly.

"Yes mum" he hugs her. "So.. who's this? I saw her at the party" she smiles, looking at me and I smile at her.

"She's my girlfriend, Jasmine" he holds my waist. Wait what? Why is he lying to his mum? We're not together.

'At least you're not together yet but it would still happen' my subconscious told me.

Of course I do but he doesn't need to know that.

"Wow, she's beautiful" she holds my hand. "Thank you" I tell her.

"Come dear, let's meet my husband" she tells me. "No mum. Dad might not like this" he stops her.

"Oh stop. He wouldn't dare" she moves  his hand and takes me to Rick's dad.

"Honey" she calls her husband. "Yes darling. Wow, who's this?" she looks at me and then his wife.

"Rick's girlfriend" she says and looks at me. I can't do anything but smile at her.

"Wow, she's beautiful" he compliments. "See, exactly what I said" his mum says to me.

"Well, I knew Rick would at least have good taste with women, more than his brother" his dad actually jokes.

"Yes dad" Rick says, smiling. "Did you enjoy yourself dear?" he asked me. "Yes sir" I smile.

"No, you can call me Lewis and my wife, Tessa" he tells me. "Theresa actually" she corrects him and we all laugh.

They are actually good people, aw!

Ring! Ring! "Rick, please get my phone and answer it. It might be your brother" Tessa tells Rick.

"Is this Mrs Fetcher?" the voice on the face other ends says, we know cause it's on speaker phone.

"Yes. You are?" Tessa answers.

"I'm a doctor and your son, Ian, is in the hospital. He's injured. Please come to the address, I'll send it now" the person says and ends the call.
