Chapter 42: "You'll call me by my name"

JASMINE CORNFIELD'S POV!
I've not been enjoying my stay in my new home with my 'father', Mr Stefan Rodriguez.

Don't get me wrong, this house is huge, beautiful and cozy. There are people there at your service anytime. My room is so beautiful and spacious.

I'm not loving this whole thing because I just found out I've been living a lie. The man who I thought was my dad, was not.

The woman who I called my mother recently, turned out to be a lie too. Diana who I took as a best friend, turned out to be a lie too.

Why the hell does my life have to be this complicated? Why couldn't I have been born to be a regular girl with a regular life. Argh! But who am I to question God?

The knocks on my door interrupts my thoughts. I say, "come in". I see Sarah, a maid, come in.

"Good day, Miss Rodriguez, you have a visitor" she informs me.

Yes! They were told to call me by my fathers surname and that alone was all the torture I needed.

Who could be the visitor? I don't have trainings till Friday and today's Wednesday.

"Who is the person Sarah?" I ask. "I was asked not to disclose that" she tells me. Argh! "Tell the person to come then" I roll my eyes in annoyance.

I see Diana, I mean Sabrina, come in a floral dress inside my room. Argh! Why is she in my room?

"What the hell do you want? You want to come lie to me again or sorry, do your job?" I say in sarcasm.

"Jasmine, it's not like that. I didn't mean to lie to you but I had to do it. Stefan has been the best to me in this world and I owe him a lot" she tells me.

"I don't understand" I tell her. "Um.. I lived in an abusive home. My dad usually hits my mum. In the course of his usual beatings, my brother died"

"That still didn't stop my dad till my mum got fed up and poisoned him"

"Later on, we got evicted from our house and we lived on the streets. My mum had no family and my dad's family abandoned us"

"After a few months, my mum died by a car accident as she was crossing the road. So, I had to fend for myself"

"One rainy day, Mr Stefan's car parked next to me and I begged him for alms and, he smiled and told me to enter his car. I argued at first but I eventually did"

"I was already working undercover in RPHS for a job then, Stefan told me about you and begged me to help. I just had to"

"I'm so sorry if I hurt you Jas. You're a true friend and I don't want to loose you, please forgive me" she comes closer to me with teary eyes.

I come down from my bed and I hug her. Her story was really sad and painful. I thought I was the one with a bad past, hers is really bad.

"Girl, I'm so sorry for all you've been through. That story was just... really touching. I'm so sorry for being hard on you" I hug and apologise to her.

"No, you had every right to be angry. It's not nice being lied to. I could've done the same you did too. I just want to be your friend back" she tells me as we leave out hug.

"That's cool. But quick question, what would I call you?" I ask her cause I'm used to Diana and her name's Sabrina.

"What do you mean? You'll call me by my name" she laughs in response. "Which is? Sabrina or Diana?" I laugh.

"Oh, you can call me whichever you prefer" she says. "I'm used to Diana especially cause that's what I've been called for over a year" she adds and we laugh.

"Okay D" I smile at her. I missed this so much.

Ring! Ring! My phone rings from my bedside and I see an unknown caller ID.

My dad said I shouldn't pick unknown numbers during this period so, I ignore it and continue trying to sleep. But the person doesn't give up that easily.

Angrily, I pick up the call and before I could get a word out, a high pitched scream is made from the other end of the call.

I drop my phone in anger due to the sound. What the hell?

I hear a knock on my door. I yell "come in" but no one came in. I walked to my door and opened it. I see an envelope on the doormat.

I look for who put it there or at least ask who put it there but as I check the corridor, the maids and bodyguards who were usually here are now gone.

What's happening? I open the envelope and see a folded paper which when opened.

It read, 'YOUR DEATH IS FAST APPROACHING, JASMINE💀'.

What the hell?
