6. PACT『 Sunoo's POV 』
"Sunghoon, Niki, you guys can choose which bed you want," I said.
"But why?" Niki asked.
"Sunghoon is new to all of us, and he's older than us, so he gets first choice. As for you, Niki, Sunoo loves to spoil you," Jungwon answered.
"Nah, I just figured since they're the oldest and youngest, it made sense," I defended.
"It's okay. You guys go ahead. I'll get some water from the kitchen," Sunghoon said before stepping out.
While he was gone, we ended up choosing our beds. There was also a closet full of clothes, so we changed into them—our pajamas had gotten all messy from passing out in the forest. I blame Edlynne’s magic for that.
Sunghoon came back after a while. We told him to take the clothes from the closet, and he quickly showered before returning.
"Guys, I overheard something when I was in the kitchen," Sunghoon said the moment he stepped inside.
"What was it?" Niki asked, intrigued.
"Edlynne and Huening Kai were talking about how we'll need to go through extensive training tomorrow. Apparently, Edlynne sensed that none of us had unlocked our powers yet, so she’ll be helping us with that. And Huening Kai—who, by the way, was supposedly the greatest warrior to ever exist—will be teaching us combat. Also, they mentioned something about bringing out an ancient spell book and giving it to Yuna," he explained.
"Looks like there's really no turning back now," Jungwon said thoughtfully.
"I also heard that there will be a lot of sacrifices and challenges along the way," Sunghoon continued. "Kai said we need to be strong of heart, but at the same time, we can’t hesitate to hurt someone if it means protecting each other. Apparently, the most important things for this whole quest will be: Love—for one another. Courage—to face anything. And Wisdom—to think things through and analyze each situation."
"I guess we’ll have to work really hard," I said, the weight of it settling in. "It’s possible that we might even die here. But no matter what, we’ll bear whatever training they throw at us, we’ll gain each other’s trust, and we’ll finish this quest."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Let’s make a pact," Niki suddenly said. "If everyone else is in danger and you’ve managed to save yourself, don’t put yourself at risk again unless you’re absolutely sure you can save the others. If someone has to die, and one of us has to make that decision, we won’t stop each other—but we make sure that death isn’t in vain. We help each other, no selfish thoughts, and no secrets between us."
"Okay, I agree," Sunghoon said. "But just add one thing—don’t stubbornly throw yourself into a dangerous situation without thinking it through first."
"I agree. And Sunghoon’s right," I added.
"Same. Let’s have each other’s backs. We’re family now," Jungwon said.
"Guys, in case I die… take care of my sister," I suddenly blurted out. The thought had been weighing on me for so long.
"You won’t die," Sunghoon said firmly. "But of course, we’ll take care of the six girls too."
"Yeah," Jungwon agreed. "We’re all in this together, whether we like it or not."
"Don’t worry, Sunoo. No one's going to die. We’ll make sure of it," Niki added.
"Thanks, guys," I said softly.
After that, we decided to sleep. We were going to need all the rest we could get for whatever tomorrow would bring.
『 Jiwoo’s POV 』
I shared a room with Bae Unnie and Kyujin. At first, we argued over who would sleep where, then we argued over wanting to go home. In the end, Bae Unnie got stuck sleeping near the dreaded window. None of us wanted that spot because Kyujin had freaked us out, saying there might be weird creatures lurking outside in the forest.
I talked to my brother, and he was just as spooked as I was. After that, we took turns showering and changed into the clothes Edlynne had provided for us in the closet.
"Guys… are you scared?" Kyujin asked in a timid voice.
"I’m trying my best not to show it, but I totally am," I confessed.
"As scared and worried as I am, I’m also really excited," Bae Unnie admitted. "I’ve always wanted an adventure like this since I was little. But I can’t help but worry about everything, too."
"I feel the same," Kyujin said, and I nodded in agreement.
"Let’s not dwell on all the horrible things that might happen," Bae said, trying to lift our spirits. "Let’s just focus on the adventure. Everything we’ll learn, everything we’ll experience… And we owe it to Edlynne and Huening Kai. They’ve been exiled from their own home for a thousand years."
"Bae Unnie is right," I said. "Let’s do our best, help Edlynne and Huening Kai, and when we finally get out of here, we’ll have an amazing story to tell."
"Let’s stick together, too. Who knows what we’ll face?" Kyujin added.
We all looked at each other and nodded in agreement. We’re going to get through this, I reminded myself.
"Good night, guys," Kyujin said, turning off the light as she got into bed.
"Sweet dreams," I echoed, doing the same.
"Let’s see what tomorrow brings," Bae added as she turned off her light, filling the room with darkness. The only source of light was the faint glow of the moon peeking in through the window.
