I Caught You Looking AU: Chapter Nine

Aru:

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY, AND HOW?!

I zoned out at the wall of the restaurant inside of the mall that Aiden, Mini, Brynne, and I sat inside. As much as I had been enjoying my day, it just flipped upside down, then back to normal, then upside down again, IN LESS THAN 15 MINUTES!!

I'm so tired already.

Brynne and Mini stared at Aiden and I from the other side of the booth-seat. I gulped and Aiden and I glanced at each other at the same time, with the exact same expressions on our face. We both knew that we were going to be dead meat by the end of this day.

"Spill." Brynne demanded menacingly, "NOW."

"No excuses shall be tolerated during this interrogation session," Mini stated, crossing her arms and tilting her head intimidatingly, " All questions are asked from the both of us, not you. The recording will start in T-minus two seconds, any objections, discussions, or clarifications needed?"

"Wait-" Aiden and I said at the same time, raising our hands.

Mini cut us off immediately. "Two seconds are over. Okay, let's start. Where were you at 9:34 P.M. last night, Arundhati Shah?"

"I was literally sleeping right next to you in my room," I replied, annoyed.

"INCORRECT." She replied, slamming her hands on the table. "YOU GOT UP AT 9:33 AND DIDN'T COME BACK FOR ANOTHER TWENTY-SEVEN WHOLE MINUTES."

I flinched. "Oh. I was getting water because my throat was dry, and then got distracted from my phone and watched some videos on it, and lost track of time, easy peasy!"

Mini squinted her eyes at me, then nudged Brynne with her elbow.

"OH!" Brynne said, coming to realize that it was her cue to say her line, "Aiden Acharya, where were you at 9:32 that exact same night?"

"In the living room, making a late night snack." Aiden replied simply.

Brynne raised her eyebrow at Aiden and then slid her phone towards him. "Don't ask for my resources. This is the exact footage of you both not being in the exact places that you said you were."

Aiden and I looked at each other in concern. On Brynne's phone, I could see Aiden walking into the kitchen, grabbing a glass of cold water, drinking it, keeping the cup in the sink, and then splashing the water in his face. He grabbed his coat and walked outside the front door, disappearing from sight. The clip of him last night cut off, then switched to my footage. It showed me, might I add in Aiden's hoodie, walking to the kitchen and drinking a little bit of water, then walking to the couch and plopping onto it, exhaling a loud sigh, and then curling up into a ball and staring at the screen of my phone. The video suddenly sped up to two minutes after, and then me getting up and walking outside of the front door, and disappearing like Aiden did.

"How do you guys have this stuff?!" I finally asked, breaking the eye-contact Aiden and I were having.

"I told you that you weren't permitted any questions during this interrogation." Mini stated.

"And I told you that you weren't supposed to ask for my resources." Brynne added, "You're just making yourselves look even more guilty."

"Guilty of doing what, exactly," Aiden questioned.

"Guilty of keeping your relationship a secret from your best friends!" The two girls exclaimed, throwing their hands up in the air.

"WE'RE NOT IN A RELATIONSHIP!!" Aiden and I declared, blushing madly.

"Then what was that whole debacle about back there?" Brynne asked, motioning towards the other side of the mall, "You literally said you were taking Shah out on a date."

I glanced at Aiden, nudging him to say something. But he remained quiet, as if his voice was caught. His face, still raspberry red as mine, stared at me with wide eyes.

"That was to save me from that weird employee-guy back there," I said, finally speaking up, "Aiden just pretended to b-be my b-boyfriend, I guess, to let the guy know to back off. That's all."

Beside me, Aiden nodded his head vigorously, agreeing with what I said. Mini squinted her eyes at me once more, reading my body language, and my eye motions, things that she regularly does to see if I tell lies and whatnot.

She looked at Brynne in defeat. "Aru's not lying. She's being truthful. We were wrong, and I'm so sorry. This session is completely confidential."

"All this interrogation is making me hungry." Brynne said, "Let's order something to eat."

I looked at Aiden with a sly smirk and raised my eyebrow. We both had the same look on our faces.

We're not letting you both go that easily, though.

"Woah, woah, woah," I said, standing up, "We're not done here. It's your turn for an interrogation, you two."

I know it's a shorter chapter than usual, 

but I wrote this on a school night cut me some slack
