I Caught You Looking AU: Chapter Twenty-Five

Aru:

"HEYYY!!" Brynne said, walking towards me on the dance floor.

She shimmied through the crowd with her date, Hira, at her side. I grinned and jumped at her, enveloping her with a hug. Mini, who was beside me, joined us in the warm embrace.

I giggled. "How are y'all??"

Mini grinned. "Great!! Happy birthday girl!! By the way, you're literally glowing in your dress."

I looked down at my dress and admired it for about the fiftieth time that night. I absolutely adored it. It was a poofy dress that was black and puffed out from my waistline and flowed to end at the middle of my shins. The waistline had golden leaves circling around it, mimicking a laurel wreath. Other golden embellishments were added subtly to the bottom, giving it class and elegance. The dress had a sweetheart's neckline and then two simple straps that tied off on the tops of my shoulders to form two cute bows. It fit me perfectly, as if it were created just for me. My hair was half up half down ponytail, with matching golden clips inserted as decoration. I had my makeup lightly done, just a little bit of eyeliner and lipgloss. I felt and looked pretty, and I was really happy with the whole entire outfit.

"Thanks for the dress shopping, lol," I said, curtsying in front of them, "'Twas a delight."

Brynne grinned. "No probs hon'," She looked down at her phone as it suddenly lit up with a notification. She turned to Mini and nodded with a sly face, and then looked right back at me. "I'll be back. I gotta go get someone. I'll see you later, Shah! Happy Birthday again."

I replied with a 'Thanks,' and then turned back to Mini. "Sooo, where's Rudy?"

"Bathroom," She said, rolling her eyes, "He drank old milk. I told him not to but he did anyway."

I laughed. "Sounds like something he'd do."

"Yup," She replied, "Where's Leo?"

"Ah," I said, sadly remembering the fact that he wasn't replying to my messages, "He's somewhere around here, we came here together but he disappeared and now he isn't replying to calls or text messages. I told him I'd be waiting for him by the snack stand so I'm just gonna head on over to that area right now."

"OH!" Mini said, eyes widening, "OKAY YOU DO THAT I GOTTA– UH– GO SEE IF RUDY'S DOING GOOD ON THE TOILET– 'KTHANKSBYE!"

She rushed off, while trying to mutter to herself under her breath. "Shoot, I gotta redirect Brynne and let her know."

I heard everything, Mini.

I quickly grabbed her hand, holding her back. "Mini... What're you talking about?"

"UHH NOTHING I JUST– UHM..." She looked to the restrooms, "SHOOT! I THINK I DRANK THE SAME MILK AND IT'S COMIN' DOWN QUICK! GOTTA GO!!!"

I rolled my eyes and chuckled to myself, making my way back to the snacks. I grabbed a soda and just waited there for Leo, but I didn't see him anywhere.

Gods, where is he?

I walked over to the dance floor to see if he'd be there, but didn't find him there either, so I walked right back to the concession. I sighed to myself. I knew this was going to happen at one point. Why would a boy like Leo be interested in a girl like me? I just have bad luck with guys in general. My birthday was beginning to go downhill. I looked up from my phone to grab my purse and my coat from the table that I'd left it on. I was getting ready to leave early because I decided I didn't need to wait any longer when I saw him.
