I Caught You Looking AU: Chapter Twenty (Woohoo!)

Aiden:

"Soooo," Rudy said to me during lunch, "How'd it goooo?"

I glared at him and got up to put my tray up.

"What's wrong with him??" Rudy asked, scowling.

Brynne put a hand on his shoulder and patted him. "He's just having a hard time with life right now. I'll explain later."

Aru's been ignoring me the entire day. I don't blame her, but like, I just want to be friends. I still like her, obviously, but I just can't do this. If I get with her, maybe one day I would hurt her or she would hurt me, and we'd end up like mom and dad, and I wouldn't be able to live with myself if that happened. I turned back to the table to walk back over there after I had turned my tray back in, but Aru was there, talking with Brynne and Rudy happily as if nothing happened. She removed her jacket and sat down next to them on the bench, and I saw the top she was wearing. It was a dark green tank top that had lace around the top of it, and she wore it with regular jeans and a black jacket. I guess she'd been hiding it the entire day, and I knew why. Mini probably gave the top to her and forced her to wear it, and she would've taken the jacket to cover it up. I knew her style and this wasn't hers, but she just managed to pull almost anything off in such a beautiful manner. Although, she made the stupid decision to take a really thick jacket, so obviously it'd get hot in our school which was quite cheap with the AC. Mini would've agreed to that jacket on this exact thought process.

DANG SHE LOOKS GOOD IN THAT.

I shook my head to throw out the stupid thoughts in my brain and think normally. Aru was only a friend. Just a friend. A really good friend.

Okay, Acharya, now's your chance to maybe make things right and become friends again. DON'T MESS UP.

I straightened my shirt, ran a hand through my messy hair, and took a deep breath before walking over to the table.

"Heeeey, Shah," I said, voice shaking from how nervous I was, "How are you? The weather's awesome today, right?"

She slowly turned towards me with the most hurt look ever, just shook her head, grabbed her jacket, got up, and walked away with no words towards me whatsoever. I ran after her, not giving up just yet.

"Shah, wait, I just want to explain–"

"No." She said cutting me off. This was the first time I heard her voice all day and it was so harsh it cut through my soul and heart. I felt my heart dropping to my stomach.

"I don't want to hear anything, Aiden, I know what you're going to say. That you still like me, but you can't be with me, because of a reason which you won't even tell me. For god's sake, Aiden, wake up! You're acting like a total jerk and an oblivious one at the same time. I don't know when you're going to realize that you're missing out on something big, but–"

"Hey, am I interrupting something?" Leonard Wolfe said, walking up to us, "I just needed to give Aru her papers for our project together."

Aru quickly wiped her tears that were sliding down her face and smiled sweetly at Leo. "Hey, Leo, yeah no problem, you wanna come over today? We could start the project at my house."

He grinned back, "Yeah, no problem, I'll be there. Could I..." He hesitated and blushed, "M-Maybe get your number also? So like maybe I could text you? For the project of course."
