Chapter 39

Lizzie's P.O.V.
"Are you sure, you're okay to go inside? We can get a hotel if you want" We stand here in front of her house and I feel like I'm going to pass out. My heart wanting to just rip itself out of my chest, my hands and feet are starting to feel fuzzy. I can tell her yes, we should get a hotel for tonight but I don't want to be rude or anything. It's still her family we're talking about and one thing, I can't run away from this again. I just can't.

"Yea" I breathe before glancing up to her and nod my head releasing a small smile. Maybe it came out a bit hesitant because she just stared at me for the longest time. "I should apologize for what happened earlier."

"Alright then. But if you're going to have another attack then that's it, we'll be staying in a hotel room for tonight." She says seriously, with a tone that supports that. I sighed as she takes my hand lacing it with hers while we walked in the house. The smell of homemade food fills the air and its making me hungry. That just smells so good.

"Mom, dad we're home!" Shannon yells as we walked further into the house. I clung to her for dear life, like my knees are on the verge of giving up on me. I try to compose myself as Jim comes into view from the kitchen. He smiles as soon as he saw us, again, like nothing happened.

"You're both right on time, dinner's ready." He says as he gave Shannon a tap on the shoulder and looks right at me giving me that worried look before saying "Feeling better Lizzie?"

"Yea, uh- I'm sorry abo-"

"Nah, it's alright. We should have a little talk later after dinner." The talk, just thinking about that gives a tightening feel in my chest it made my grip on Shannon's arm tighten as I nod my head. Jim smiles apologetically and I put myself on flight mode.

Auto pilot, survival mode.

I breathe out as soon as he turns around trying to calm the fuck down. Warm hands to the side of my face made me look up into those ocean eyes.

Blue, calm sea.

"Hey, its okay. Try to breathe with me sweetheart." She pulls me in close to her chest and breathe slowly, calm and I close my eyes imagining the blue in her eyes. Blue clear skies with birds chasing one another. The beach, kissing on the beach and the calming sound of the waves crashing to the shore and the cold salty breeze blowing right into us and here she is walking with me with sand warming our feet and she calls,

"Hey, you're okay." and I'm back, here in her house. I breathe out and opened my eyes. Still those eyes mesmerize me. The beach, my mind thinks.

"I'm okay" I repeat. She stares for a second and pulls me in closer to her chest kissing my forehead, so close I can hear her heart beating loudly in her chest. A loud thud thud in a steady pace. She mutters something but doesn't register in me before taking my hand as we start to walk to the dining room. I remind myself to put on a brave face as we enter the room, fix a smile on my lips and they will never know, besides the fact that I just a had a total meltdown earlier.

"Hey, come on take your seat." Debbie says looking a bit fidgety as we walked in. Casey was sat looking at me, the same look Shannon gave to me earlier, a worried one. She smiles when I caught her gaze and I smiled back but I didn't speak. Shan pulls out a chair for me to sit before she takes the seat next to me moving her chair a bit closer to mine protectively that somehow made me feel at ease.

Shannon starts putting soup on my bowl when Debbie asks "So where did you go?"and before I could even construct a sentence in my mind, Shannon answered.

"Around the neighborhood and then stopped over by the park to get some ice cream. It was good, haven't done that in a while and it was a breather. " There was something in Shannon's tone that screams she's not in the best mood tonight and that made my chest tighten again and needles starts piercing my stomach.
