I woke up before anyone else had due to...poor sleep. I had hardly slept last night and ended up waking before dawn, so I left the RV and went to join the others. What I didn't expect though, was for Rick to already be up and patrolling around the fence.

Instead of bothering the others while they rested, I decided to join Rick and keep him company for a while.

As I walked over to him, I took a brief glance over to Daryl, seeing that he was still on watch. Just as I turned to look at him, he looked to me, so I looked away and hurried off to Rick.

"Morning." I called as I approached.
Rick looked over his shoulder, then stopped.
"Mornin'."
"Why aren't you asleep?"
He turned to me and chuckled.
"I could ask the same thing."
I shrugged and looked over to Daryl out the corner of my eyes, then back to Rick.
"Didn't sleep well."
Rick seemed to notice my gaze and chuckled.
"You were up with Daryl then?"
I got quiet.
"For a while..."
He shook his head.
"You two never leave each other alone, do you?"
"Well...I was making sure he wasn't falling asleep on watch! You know he has a tendency to lounge about!"
Rick chuckled and shook his head.
"Right. Sure."
"I was!"
"Mmhmm."
He began walking again and I joined him by his side.
"You're such a dad you know."
He laughed.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
I shrugged and walked along with my hands behind my head.
"You act fatherly. Nagging and teasing and being embarrassing...even your jokes are dad jokes."
"Well, I am a dad."
"Yeah. But not to me!"
He whacked my head making my arms drop.
"Maybe you shouldn't act like a big kid then.."
"It's called being cheerful, someone has to lighten the mood."
He chuckled.
"And being reckless is a part of that is it?"
I groaned and hit his arm.
"Killjoy."
He smirked and mimicked me.
"It's called being responsible."

I patrolled the fence with Rick and continued to talk to him until everyone woke up.

He tapped my arm and nodded to Daryl.
"Go bring Daryl back to the group. We need to go over our plans for today."
I groaned and crossed my arms.
"Why me?"
"Cause he'll listen to you."
I began to mumble, began to remember yesterday's events.
"But I can't..."
Rick looked me up and down.
"Oh, oh, I see. You two have-"
"WE HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING! I'LL GO GET HIM NOW BYE!"

I immediately sprinted off before Rick could say anything else, hearing his chuckles behind me.

As soon as I got to the bus, my mind went blank. I had run here without thinking. Again. I was too embarrassed to hear Rick's words that I just...
And now I was too embarrassed to talk to Daryl...

I sighed and facepalmed myself.
"Why do I never think things through.."
I heard shuffling, then a voice.
"Dunno, why don' ye?"
I jumped and looked up, seeing Daryl poking his head over the edge of the bus.
"Uhhh..um..you weren't supposed to hear that?"
"I gathered."
We stared at each other for a moment, not saying anything.

He seemed mad. His tone was rougher than usual and he was scowling at me like I had stolen his crossbow.

"What'd ye want? Yer disruptin' my peace." He spat.
I rolled my eyes.
"Why do you always have an attitude?"
"Why did ye run away last night?"
I went silent.
"Uhhh...I..."
He stared me dead in the eyes.
"Well?"
I wracked my brain for an answer. An excuse. Anything.
"I saw a snake nearby!"
He raised a brow.
"A snake?"
I nodded frantically.
"They creep me the fuck out so-, hang on, I shouldn't tell you this..."
He smirked down at me and his anger immediately turned to amusement.
"Yer scared of snakes?"
"..Nooo..?"
He snorted.
"Wimp."
"Fuck off, Dixon! At least I don't believe in chuba cabras!"
He pointed at me.
"That was fuckin' real, alright?"
I rolled my eyes.
"Suree, as real as the fucking easter bunny."
