A/N: Next chapter begins the actual plot of Divergent, so keep an eye out for that in the upcoming week! I hope you all love meeting my feral child Bellamy, who is honestly kinda a lovable brat haha! Thoughts, feedback, questions? I'd love to hear it!

Several Years Previous

Bellamy scrambled from her perch, overlooking the rest of the Dauntless. Her stuffed bird lay discarded in the corner of her ledge as she carefully crawled down the stone. Her small feet fit into the grooves, hands scraping down until her feet touched the ground beneath her feet.

Jaw set and wide-eyed, Bellamy ran after the people that were going to greet the newbies. The new recruits, fresh from the Choosing Ceremony. It was something that happened annually, and one of the few things she rather enjoyed watching.

After all, getting a bunch of people to jump off a literal building—that took some blind trust. Her hair tangled wildly as she ran, pushing past people as she made her way to the front of the crowd.

If there was one thing Bellamy never missed, it was the jump. She was going to do that one day. Come back to Dauntless and choose this life. Again and again and again. It was all she ever wanted.

After all, why would she want to leave?

For the most part, she went where she wanted and did whatever she wanted. The perks of having no parents and being a Dauntless Orphan were that you didn't really have anyone bossing you around. Well, no one except for Tori.

Speaking of the older girl—

Bellamy nudged at the girl with thick hair, pulling on her sleeve. "Aren't you supposed to be training?" Tori asked, eyes falling on the eight year old girl.

A pout covered her features. "Well yes, but—"

"I know," Tori said, a grin crossing her features. "You never miss the jump."

"It's exciting!" Bellamy said, as if it were obvious. And she was correct about that.

Tori pointed up at the sky, where the roof was just barely visible. "Do you see them yet?"

Bellamy squinted, eyes focused on the edge of the roof. "I can hear the train."

"Good," Tori said warmly, a smile slipping onto her face. "That means they'll be jumping soon."

Bellamy couldn't contain the excitement bounding up in her. She was nearly bouncing on the balls of her feet, leaning forward with her eyes set on the roof. Then came the yell. Excitement peeked through to the surface as a boy hit the net harshly, nearly stumbling off of it as he breathed heavily.

Her gaze narrowed and again, she couldn't help her curiosity. Before Tori could so much as grab her by the back of her shirt, she had darted forward, coming to a stop in front of the eighteen year old boy.

"So you jumped first."

Tobias Eaton nearly jumped out of his skin at the sound of a young girl's voice. It had a certain ring to it and his gaze fell on the small blonde girl with big eyes staring at him.

"Uh, yeah." Tobias said, somewhat uncomfortable with her gaze locked onto him so strongly.

"That was pretty brave of you. You've got guts. I like you." Bellamy exclaimed.

"Um—"

She glanced behind her, gaze narrowing in on the leaders walking his way. "They're gonna ask you your name. You can change it if you want."

"I—"

"How many things are you afraid of?"

"I—"
