A/N: I'm not sure if there's a single chapter where Bellamy is NOT unhinged. That being said, I hope you enjoy this next one greatly! As always, let me know what you think!

Bellamy tapped her foot against Vi's, kicking at the girl. Upon arrival to the Factionless, they had quickly found themselves caught up in war preparations. Now, as the trio sat eating breakfast, the grim feeling had set in.

An actual war.

They had always known that as Dauntless, they'd be on the front lines. And each one of them, in their own way, had been comfortable with that. But a war—a war between humanity, what they assumed was the last of it—

It was horrifying to think about. Jeanine would sacrifice people. She'd do whatever it took. And they'd need to do that too.

"Help—"

Bellamy was on her feet in seconds, eyes wide at the people climbing up a ledge. Christina was one of them. "Oh shit." Bellamy blurted, hurrying through the crowd before Griff or Vi could stop her.

Rushing forward and stopping at the front of the crowd and finding herself next to Tris, the duo's eyes set upon the trio of people walking to the edge of the ledge.

"The traitor, Tris Prior, must be surrendered to Erudite. Or every day, more death will follow." They all chanted at once.

With a horrifying and sickening plummet in her gut, Bellamy realized that Jeanine was going to force these people to commit suicide. Bile rose in her throat and she sprinted at the exact same time as Tori and Tris, hurrying to climb up the ledge.

Being the most experienced climber out of the three of them, she clung to the rungs just barely as she moved. The chanting continued and Bellamy wondered if it was something she'd hear for the rest of her life.

Upon reaching the top, Bellamy lunged for the girl in the middle, Tori reaching for the boy beside her. Bellamy skidded to her stomach, arm holding to the girl. Eyes widening, she realized it was Marlene.

Marlene was an older Dauntless-born, someone who hadn't ever been particularly nice or mean to her. Bellamy strained with effort, clinging to the girl. "Marlene—you have to wake up!" Bellamy begged.

The blonde girl was limp though, with nothing on in her eyes. Bellamy wondered if she'd even feel death, or if she would just be gone. Bellamy clawed at her arm, straining to hold onto her. Before Tori or Tris could reach for Bellamy to secure her, she had slipped.

Bellamy clung to the rung, a pained yelp tearing from her lips as she tried to hold onto Marlene still. "You have to let go!" Tori commanded, eyes wide as she extended a hand down towards Bellamy. "I need your other hand!"

"She'll die—"

"And take you with her!" Tori commanded.

Bellamy closed her eyes, and then she let go.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bellamy had been abnormally silent, eyes just blankly staring out into space. Evelyn was talking, but all Bellamy could see was Marlene's blank look in her eyes. The way that she would not know that Bellamy had failed her. The way that she would not even know that it was her last day.
Death, did in fact, scare Bellamy. It scared her beyond all belief. But she had nothing to go on. Nothing to trust in, just herself.
"We removed this from the body of the deceased—"
"Marlene." Bellamy croaked, voice cracking the silence. "Her name was Marlene."
Evelyn just gave the teenager a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry...Marlene." Evelyn finished.
