The first thing that the girl was aware of was the fact that her head was ringing all ten levels of loudness and pain. It felt like someone had grabbed a swab of cotton and cut open her brain, then shoved the cotton down in between her brow.
For a moment, it was all she could do to inhale and exhale.
That was breathing, right?
She fluttered her eyes open—
Only to be met with darkness. She couldn't even see her hand as she lifted the heavy limb in front of her face. Accidentally smacking herself in the face, the girl let out a wince of pain.
Wait—was that how she sounded?
"What the actual hell?"
Her voice sounded young—she couldn't even remember how old she was. Speaking of which—she didn't even know who she was. Panic began to claw its way up her throat and as the girl's eyes adjusted to the darkness, she grabbed the first object.
Hand wrapping around something metal—it felt like some sort of circular object—she tested it out in her hands. As the cage seemed to rattle all around her, the girl just held tightly to it. It seemed blunt enough.
Who knew what was going to happen to her or who she was going to come face to face with at the end of this trip?
She sank back into the shadows, feeling comfort with the object in her hand. She slipped down into a crouch, feeling something sharp pinch against her leg. Pulling at the object, the girl was met with a slicing sound and pain erupting in her hand.
A knife.
Gritting her teeth, the girl held the knife in her hand, slick with her own blood.
As the elevator shaft came to a ringing stop, she was jolted forward. But still, she stayed in place, crouched low next to a crate. The only sound for a moment was just her breathing. Uneven, choppy—breathless.
Light began to flood into the shaft and she shook, eyes struggling to adjust to the sudden brightness. And then there were voices—
"Where's the Greenie?"
What the actual hell was a Greenie?!
There was a loud thud as someone landed on the ground of the elevator. Almost immediately, the girl was met with the sight of a large looming boy—he leaned forward, eyes locking onto her and shooting up in surprise.
"Holy shuck. It's a girl—"
He grabbed at her arm and she swung without even thinking—the metal object collided with his jaw and chaos erupted. He let out a yelp of pain and she sprinted, leaping atop the crates quickly and jumping upwards.
She clung to the edge of the crate, pulling herself up and eyes finally landing on the people all around her. Boys—nearly a dozen—surrounded her, eyes wide and murmuring at the sight of her.
Without another thought in her brain, the girl held out the bloody knife in front of her. "Stay the hell back!"
Before she could make another move, she was tackled to the ground. She gave a shriek as she collided with the dirt, knife skidding out of her grasp. The boy from before—the one that she had hit—was holding her down on the ground.
She acted on instinct. She bit down on his hand and he gave a yell of surprise and she kneed him in the groin—rolling away from him.
"She bit me! The little bitch actually bit me!"
