In the chaos of the next month, Bellamy had a feeling that it was just the calm before the storm. But honestly, she wasn't quite sure. Everyone was suddenly Factionless, what with the truth about what lay behind the wall being revealed to the public.
Everything had just seemed to dissolve before her eyes. Any world order that had previously existed was just gone. Evelyn had taken power, creating a system of shared power with the other remaining leaders.
Four had been right about her swooping in to take power. And Bellamy had been correct in her assumptions that Evelyn didn't want anyone going beyond the wall either. Just like Jeanine. They just craved power.
Bellamy felt stir-crazy. She trained with Griff and Vi every day, getting stronger and the longing for the future grew.
The main base was where the Factionless had previously resided, and now they were holding trials there. Bellamy wasn't sure how to feel about those either. Tori kept a close eye on the girl, worried that whatever she had seen or done in the months leading up to this whole situation had taken its toll.
And maybe it had. Maybe Bellamy had let the darkness in and maybe she was comfortable with it as a part of her soul. She was willing to do what needed to be done. She could count on herself to get the job done.
It wasn't just Tori that had noticed the change. Four had too. He saw the growing anger and tendency to lash out. There just wasn't much he could do about it at this point. The sixteen year old girl had no desire to go back to the scared kid she had been.
Turning slightly, she glanced at Tori. "If Peter doesn't stop trying to make nice with me, I'm going to strangle him in my sleep."
Tori couldn't help the grin that slipped onto her face. "Noted. And respected."
Today, Max was going on trial. Bellamy admitted, she honestly was excited about his fate. The guy had been a Grade A asshole since the time she was a kid. And his complete willingness to be led like a sheep in the slaughter of other human beings by Eric—
He was going to get exactly what he deserved.
Bellamy made her way over to Griff and Vi, both of whom were drinking some vile shit out of a canteen. She looked at them in disgust. "Drinking again?"
"More like gaining the spoils of war." Vi said with a grin, closing the lid. "Come to watch the show?"
"This one, yeah." Bellamy said, slipping into a seat next to them. "I told you we'd kill them all." She murmured, looking at the girl earnestly.
Vi's features tightened. "You did, didn't you? Thanks, B. You're always so good at killing people for me."
"Anytime, V."
"Ugh," Griff remarked, rolling his eyes. "I think I preferred when we all hated each other."
"You mean when everyone else hated us and we all just tolerated each other's existence?" Bellamy demanded.
"Yeah, that." Griff retorted.
Before anyone could respond to that, Kang's voice had filled their ears. "We all find ourselves on new ground! I dedicated my life to seeking the truth. Under Jeanine, it passed me by. For that, I humbly apologize." Cheers filled the building. "But my personal failure has only strengthened my resolve to make things right. While the Faction of Candor may no longer exist, I want everyone to know that I will not let the pursuit of honesty go by the wayside as we rebuild our city!"
"Politics, don't you just love it?" Griff snarked.
Vi's grip tightened on her cup. "Not really, no."
