A/N: Bellamy, my little icon, I adore you. I'll be taking a breaking until mid-July/early August! Slight hiatus to catch up! Thank you :)

It was early the next morning when the carnage began, at least for Vi Elessar. It had been simple, really. She was fast asleep in their quarters when a loud noise had alerted her. In seconds, Vi's eyes had shot open.

She had rolled off of the bed she shared with her younger sister, hand going to the knife that resided under the mattress. The sound came again and she crept over to the edge of the door, beyond which were her parents.

The door to their quarters slammed open and in came Eric, flanked by two people in Erudite colors. Their voices were kept quiet, in hushed tones. Vi strained her neck, trying to listen in without alerting them to the fact that she was still here. That she was awake.

What happened next was permanently seared into her brain.

The sound of gunshots rang in her ears and screams erupted from her siblings. Vi could only watch in horror as bullets littered through the door. Something seemed to shift in her soul as she stared at the crimson staining the mattress.

As she looked at the bodies of her siblings.

Vi Elessar's face darkened and she spun the knife in her hand, then pushed through the door. A bullet ripped into her shoulder and she crumpled to the ground, breath literally stolen from her lungs.

She stared up at the ceiling, unable to move as the fiery pain washed over her. So this is how she would die. But all fight that she had previously had seemed to wilt and crumple. She closed her eyes. And she let go.

Bellamy woke with a start, flinching into a sitting position. The sound of marching filled her ears and she looked over the ledge, seeing the new Initiates marching through the halls. The serum—it had to be this.

Which meant that whatever was about to go down, it was happening now. And people were going to die.

Whatever gripped her heart wasn't fear. It was determination. Determination that Four would not be turned into a mindless killer. That her entire way of life would not be destroyed by those who were power hungry.

She was a Divergent for a reason. She had to believe that, had to cling to that. Bellamy quickly grabbed her jacket and boots, dressing faster than she had ever done before. She waited until all of the Initiates were headed towards the Mess Hall before slithering down the wall and landing lightly on her feet.

Bellamy was a lot of things. But a fool was not one of them. She needed to know what was going on. And she needed a gun. Her knife would only do so much against these highly trained people.

Sticking closely to the shadows, Bellamy crept forward, stopping just short of the Mess Hall. Faintly, she could hear speaking up ahead as the Dauntless Recruits all filed into line with everyone else.

She peeked her head around the corner and suddenly, she felt sick to her stomach. It wasn't just the initiates and the teachers. It was everyone. Minus the children, of course. Gunshots sounded down the hall, but she just clenched her fists and listened closely.

"They can see and hear us, they just don't process it the same way. The commands come in through the transmitter." One of the leader spoke.

Someone toed out of line, questioning what was happening. She watched in horror as Eric shot the man in the head, finding it hard to breathe. She knew Eric was a monster. She just didn't think he had always been this much of a monster.
