I slowly dragged myself to the main gate, pushing myself just that final little stretch more to get home.
"Stop righ' there." A familiar voice ordered.
It was Daryl.
I smiled and mumbled to myself.
"Stupid bastard."
I looked up to him and walked closer.
"How many times have you threatened to shoot me now? Three?" I joked.
"Y/n?.."
I smirked at him as I stopped opposite him.
"Who else do you know that has one eye? Dumbass."As soon as my eye met his, he ran to the lock, scrambling to get it open. He fumbled and dropped the key several times, he was in such a rush. His arms were shaking and I saw tears fall down his cheeks.
Eventually, after a little struggle, he got the gate open and ran to me. As soon as he approached, Coco and Cream jumped in front of me and began to growl, making him stop.
He looked to me confused, tears in his eyes.
"Wolves?"
I chuckled and stroked Coco and Cream, easing them.
"He's a friend pups. He's okay."
They stood down and sat beside me, but still watched Daryl carefully.
In a matter of seconds he erupted like a volcano.
"I thought you were dead you fuckin' idiot! And you come back here with what? Pet wolves and a huge-ass smile on your face!? Do you have any idea-"
"I missed you too, Daryl."He began to choke up, not being able to find the words to reply to me. Instead, he began to rush over to hug me. I was about to let him, but then I remembered Winter was on my back.
"No! No! No bear hugs!" I cried.
He paused in front of me and scowled at me.
"You've been missin' fer god-knows how long, and you-"
I showed him Winter on my back.
"YOU HAVE A KID!?"
"SHUT UP! SHE'S SLEEPING YOU IDIOT!"
Our raised voices made Coco and Cream begin to growl at Daryl again.
He surrendered, but scowled at me.
"We thought you were dead! And you come back with two mutts and a kid!?"
"Well, I couldn't leave them..."
"You fuckin'-"He let out an annoyed huff, then shook his head and embraced me gently, making sure to be careful of Winter.
"I was so worried, bun."
I leaned into his chest and rubbed his back.
"I know, Daryl. I know."
He began to sob a little into my shoulder, and I continued to soothe him.
He pulled away and pointed a finger to me.
"Don't you ever do somethin' like that again."
I smirked and ruffled his hair.
"You're not scary when there's tears in your eyes, grizzly."
He grumbled and scored.
"I fuckin' mean it! You pull tha' shit again I'll kill ya myself!"
"You won't."
"I will."
"You won't.
"I will."
I took the arrows that I found out my bag, and handed them to Daryl.
"You won't."
He clutched the arrows and sighed, his chest shaking.
"You dumbass."
"I know."
He hugged me again, clutching the arrows in his hand.
"Please. Don't ever die on me...I don't.."
I pulled away and smiled at him.
"I won't."
He let a small smile come onto his face as he nodded.
"Good."
"I mean, who else is gonna annoy you, if not me?"He grumbled and as about to choke hold me, but Winter began to stir. Puls, Coco and Cream began to snarl at him.
I felt Winter peek over my shoulder at Daryl, then immediately grip me tightly. I looked over my shoulder and smiled at her.
"It's okay, Winnie. This is, uncle Daryl. He looks mean, but if you look closely, he's just a big teddy bear."
I looked to Daryl, who had frozen in shock, then nodded to Winter.
"This is Winter, or Winnie. Depends."
He tried to speak, but his mouth failed him.
"See. He's really shy. You'll have to look after him."
Winter nodded enthusiastically and waved to Daryl, making his cheeks go a little pink.
Daryl looked to the wolves and changed the subject.
"Wha' about them?"
"The mother is Coco and the pup is Cream."
He chuckled and bent down, petting them slowly.
"Such shit names."
"I was hungry, alright?"
He chuckled and stood again.
"I'm glad you're back, bun."
"Good to be back."
"Com'on, yer girlfriend will wanna see ya."
