"Go ask Paul if he knows anything about swimming pools." Laura suggested as we both stood dumbfounded at the swimming pool which happened to be a weird green colour. We think the filters are broke but then again we have no clue.
"His probably really busy, or just wants to relax seeing as it's Saturday." I replied as I walked back into the house and straight to the refrigerator to get a snack.
"He said we could come by anytime if we needed anything?" She said as she sat down on a chair at the kitchen counter. She has a good point but surely he was being nice and really meant 'leave me the hell alone I like peace and quiet'.
I thought about it for 5 seconds then decided what the heck. We needed to fix the pool ASAP seeing as it's hot here everyday and we want to do this barbecue next weekend.
"Fine but don't act stupid if he offers to help." I said point at her warningly. She sent me a sarcastic smile in return.
"I have a boyfriend that I love very much so there will be no flirting from me this time." She says smugly. Ha. Like she wouldn't think twice about dating Paul if he made a move on her.
-
I walked up to his front door and knocked twice before waiting patiently. All of a sudden the door flings open and stood in front of me is a little girl with brown hair.
"Can I help you?" She says politely. She looks exactly like Paul.
"Uh yeah, is your dad home? Our swimming pool isn't working properly and his the only person that I've met in the neighbourhood."
"DAD!!!! It's for you" She yells in a different direction. I laugh slightly because she reminds me of myself when I was her age.
Paul appears at the door not wearing a shirt but just swimming trunks. Great so he does have a pool in his backyard. That wasn't the first thought that popped into my head when he appeared though;).
(And as I'm writing this See You Again begins playing on the radio :(. )
"Missing me already?" He jokes as he wipes a beach towel over his blonde hair. He looks like perfection right now.
"I just couldn't stay away." I play on his joke. "Do you know anything about maintaining swimming pools? Ours is a weird green colour and being from New York I've never owned my own pool.
"Yeah, there'll be too much chlorine being filtered into the pool, I'm guessing you don't know how the filter works?" I nod shyly. "Meadow!" He yells. She appears near the staircase. "Come on, we going over to Alena's to fix her pool." She nods as she wraps her towel around her.
"Sorry, she's still to young to leave home alone." He says as he closes his down."No worries! If you ever need someone to look after her I'm always at home during the day. Being an art student has it's perks I guess." I suggest as we make our way through the house.
"That would be great actually. She usually stays at Mrs. Parkers, who lives next door, during the day when I'm at work but she doesn't enjoy her company much, do you Mead?" He says ruffling her hair.
"She's old." Meadow speaks up. I let out a loud laugh as Paul signals for her to be quieter.
"Well if you don't think I'm too old to hang out with them you can come over anytime." I suggested looking back at Meadow as we walked through the kitchen.
"Sure!" She says with a massive grin on her face.
-
2 hours later the pool was fixed and me, Lauren, Paul and Meadow were sitting around a table outside enjoying the sunshine and hot weather.
"Well we should head out, Meadow has volleyball practice at 5." Paul spoke up as he stood from his chair and motioned for Meadow to get up.
"Oh ok." I didn't realise how much I was enjoying their company until he got up to leave. Paul had to be one of the friendliest and chill guy I've ever met, not to mention he tells great stories. We could of sat here talking all night if he didn't stop to leave. "Do you think some of the neighbours would be up for coming round for a barbecue next weekend?" I asked Paul.
"I can let people know. Most people who live around here are young so should fit your crowd." He says smiling. Laura will be happy considering she's been trying to set me up with a million different boys, saying I'm going to die alone if I don't get a move on.
"Sounds great!" Laura spoke as we headed towards the front door to say goodbye to Paul and Meadow. "Meadow can bring some friends along too."
Meadow nodded enthusiastically as her father laughed. We said our goodbyes and I headed downstairs into the basement which I've turned into my art studio.
