"Missing New York yet?" Josh asks as we both walk into the kitchen. He sits down at the counter and gets his phone out of his pocket, messing about with it.

"Not really, I've been far too busy to feel homesick." I say as I pull out some apple juice from the refrigerator and two glasses from the cupboard above me. "How are your family doing?" I ask Josh as I pour us both drinks and sit down at the counter opposite to him.

"They're doing good." I slide his drink to his side and he mutters a thank you. "Jessica wanted to know if you were still planning on coming to the wedding? It's all she talks about these days." He says rolling his eyes.

I had known Josh for quite some time as I met his sister in kindergarten and we had been close friends since so I obviously got to know him and our families have been close ever since. He is two years older than me and Jessica so he is almost done with college.

"Of course! I'm her bridesmaid! I wouldn't miss it for the world." I say smiling. Jessica had asked me to be one of her bridesmaids but when I told her I was moving to California she became paranoid that I would miss her wedding. I could tell Josh wasn't thaT excited or bothered by the wedding but I don't think boys show the same enthusiasm when it comes to weddings. I guess it's more of a girl thing.

"Are you bringing a plus one?" He asks as he sips his drink.

"I don't know. I might take Laura if that's ok?" He nods.

"That should be fine."

"What have you been up to? How's college been?" I ask. Josh was studying to become a doctor. He has always been smart and hardworking. I guess that's why my parents tried to hard to set us up with each other because he would make a good husband. Just not for me.

"Everything's going well. I can't wait to pass and find a job." He says smiling.

We're interrupted as Laura walks in.

"If I ever need surgery, I'll be sure to see you!" Laura says as she pours a bowl of cereal. Laura always wakes up late and misses most of her classes.

The doorbell rings and I jump up to answer the door. I pull open the door and see Paul standing there smiling.

"Hey." He says. He was wearing a white shirt with beige shorts.

"Long time no see. You alright?" I ask.

"Yeah, I just wanted to come by and see how you were doing? You're not busy are you?" I smile and invite Paul inside.

I hadn't seen Paul since our breakfast date, which was 3 days ago but he had called me the day after about Meadow coming over.

"No, not at all. I'm good. Have you been away, you've kinda been MIA for the past few days?" I ask referring to not seeing him around lately.

"Oh, yeah I was out of town for a couple of days visiting my brother." I nod as I guide him towards the kitchen were I had left Josh and Laura. We walk in but only Laura is seated at the counter watching some chat show on the TV.

"Oh hey Paul." She says with a mouth full of food. Ew. I groan but Paul seems to find it amusing.

"Hey what's up?" He says as we both sit at the counter.

"Nothing much, how was your date?" She asks smirking as she motions between me and Paul.

"We had a great time." Paul says smiling at me. I smile back.

"So I've heard." Laura says smirking at me. My mouth drops open and I kick her under the table before she has the chance to speak further.

"Oh yeah?" Paul says eyeing my carefully. I quickly avert my eyes away from him and avoid his stare.

"Yep." Laura says exaggerating the p. She gets up to put her bowl in the sink and sits back down.

We talk for a couple of minutes before Josh comes into the kitchen.

"Hey, Lena can you help me with the washing machine?" He says. He notices Paul but doesn't say anything. "Hey man, I'm Josh, nice to meet you." He says reaching over the counter to shake Paul's hand. Paul responds and returns the gesture.

"Paul, nice to meet you to bro."

I get up and motion Josh to follow so I can help him. He puts his hands on my shoulders and pushes me slightly to the laundry room. I let out a short laugh.

PAULS POV

I watch Josh carefully as he walks out of the kitchen with Alena. I noticed how he called her Lena. Maybe they've know each other for a while, but I've never heard Laura call her that.

"Earth to Paul!" I see hands waving in front of my face. I snap out of my trance and look back forward to were Laura is sitting.

"Sorry. I was-"

"Staring at Josh and Alena." She says laughing. Hopefully she doesn't catch on. "Is someone getting a little jealous?" She says smirking.

"Nah. I'm not jealous. He's not a threat. He doesn't even seem like her type." I say defensively. I sound like an idiot right now. I'm definitely jealous.

"If you say so." She says nodding.

"Who is he anyway?" I ask trying to sound casual about it. I don't know why I'm denying being jealous when Laura can clearly tell that I am.

"They've known each other for like 16 years. They kinda dated for about 7 months but they broke it off 8 months ago." She explains, filling me in with the details. I'm guessing "Josh" is who she was talking about when I asked her about her relationship status on our date.

"Why is he staying here?" I ask cautiously. Hopefully he won't be staying here for too long.

"They're still friends, they've known each other for a long time and they broke up with a mutual understanding." She says. I nod but inside my head is exploding. This guy better not interfere.
