"Ready?" Paul asks as he steps into my house. He was right on time, unfortunately I was not. I slept straight through my alarm and woke up later than I wanted to. By the time Paul was ringing my doorbell I was only just putting my clothes on.

"I just need to find some shoes and get my bag quickly. Make yourself comfortable!" I shout as I rush up the stairs towards my bedroom.

"Shoes...shoes...where are you?!" I mumble to myself. I can't go to eat breakfast with Paul barefooted.

I open my closet which has a massive pile of clothes at the bottom of it, like always. I get on my knees and start lifting and chucking items all over my bedroom in every direction possible, trying to find a decent pair of shoes. I pull out my favourite jumper which I'd been looking for, for almost 3 weeks, and put it to the side. I find one converse shoe and let out a frustrated sigh. Where could the other one be?! I turn around and examine my room and bend down to look under my bed. "There you are!!" I say grabbing it and standing up to pick up my bag from my bed.

I rush down the stairs and almost trip and fall down the remaining steps. I grip onto the banister and steady myself, huffing as I push my hair out of my face. Paul looks at me completely amused by the hot mess stood before him.

"Take your time before you break an ankle, or your neck." He says laughing. I laugh under my breath and nod.

"Sorry to keep you waiting. My hair wouldn't straighten and then I couldn't find my stupid shoes." I say looking up at him waving my converses in the air and rolling my eyes. I sit on the step of my stairs and put my shoes on, tying my laces together.

"No worries. You look beautiful whatever your hair looks like." I look up slightly startled by his comment. He has his arms crossed, leaning his back on the doorframe watching me put my shoes on.

"Thank you." I say smirking at him. I grab my bag and get up from the steps. "Let's go and eat, I'm starving!" I say opening the door and letting Paul go first.

"That makes two of us." He says grinning whilst opening his car door for me.

"Do you always order this much food?" I ask Paul, trying to hold in my laughter as I look down at our table which is almost covered with plates of food.

"I have a healthy appetite! I'm a big guy, I need to eat this much food." He says trying to justify that fact that he is a bit of a pig. I nod in a sarcastic and mockingly way.

"Ok Paul..." I smirk looking down and pick up food on my fork.

"So how are you liking Santa Barbara so far?" He says as he also eats.

"Well it's definitely different. It's always warm and I have to many jumpers in my wardrobe for this type of weather. I haven't had the chance to shop for summer clothes yet." I take a sip of my orange juice and look out onto the beach. The sun was shining brightly onto the crystal clear water. This was a sight that I never saw in the city. Obviously.

"You should go shopping with Meadow. She always takes me with her but she'll probably prefer a women's advice than mine." He says smiling. Damn his smile it cute.

"Definitely, if she would be down to go shopping. We can arrange that to happen." I nod. "Does Meadow live with you permanently or do you take turns with her mother?" I ask. I know that Laura would always visit and stay with her dad over the summer when we would break up from school and she would take me with her as her dad had a lake house.

"She moved to live with me a few years ago but she visits her mother, Becca, during school breaks and holidays." He explains. I'd hate to live with only one parent and barely see the other.

"You don't have a girlfriend I'm assuming?" I ask. Please don't be in a relationship.

"Nah. My last relationship was 2 years ago. I kinda wanted to focus on building my relationship with Meadow at the time she moved in with me. What about you? You must have guys throwing themselves at you?" He smiles. As if!

"Not quite." I mumble, my cheeks turning a deep shade of red. "I've only had one serious relationship, about 8 months ago. I didn't really want to be with him anymore." I say shrugging. "Laura has been trying to set me up with every guy she meets so I've had my fair share of dates with complete weirdos." I laugh and he does to.

"We're on a date right now. Do you think I'm a weirdo?" He asks smiling.

"No." I laugh. "This doesn't feel like a date." I say honestly. I've been on a few dates and they have all been awkward as hell, but with Paul there's never a dull moment.

"Are you friend-zoning me right now?" He asks acting fake offended by my comment. I giggle and shake my head quickly.

"No, I just mean, that this doesn't feel like a serious date, it's pretty laid-back and not awkward at all." I explain further. Hopefully he feels the same.

"Yeah, I know what you mean." He nods and looks up from his place towards me. We both stare at each other for a moment but it feels like eternity. A smile creeps onto his face and I do the same.

"Good." I say blushing slightly and looking down.

I know this story is taking a while to show their relationship but I feel like if they started dating sooner it wouldn't have been realistic and the story would be over quicker so therefore I'm prolonging it slightly 😬💜✨
