What's in the bag?" I ask Paul as he walks into Starbucks and over to where I am sitting. I stand up and we make our way out of the cafe. I had said that I wanted a Starbucks, so he said that I whilst I got a coffee, he would quickly go into a shop to get something he needed.

"Just something Meadow wanted." He says after a long pause. He's been acting so weird and secretive today.

"Ready to leave?" I ask as we start walking. We had been out all day and my feet were beginning to hurt so bad.

"Yeah, let's go." He says as we head towards his car.

He had bought me a surfboard which was in the back of the truck.

"I wouldn't be surprised if I get back and Laura has a surprise party waiting for me." I say laughing. She knows how much I hate party's and surprises but she also enjoys putting me in awkward situations.

"Oh really?" Paul says laughing but it sounded forced and awkward.

-

"Hey, you want a drink?" Paul asks me as I get of his car. I was going to head home for a nice, quiet night in but I guess one drink won't hurt.

"Sure." I say smiling. I follow him into his house and notice there's not sign of Meadows whereabouts. "Is Meadow home?" I ask. Paul shakes his head.

"She's at her friends, like always." He opens his fridge and grabs two bottles of beer and opens them before handing me one.

"Thank you." I say.

"We have to arrange a day at the beach soon, now that you have a decent surfboard I can't teach you." He suggests grinning. He's probably more excited than me.

"Definitely. I told my friends before I left that I wouldn't turn into the surfer type but I think you're changing me." I laugh.

"Hey, it's a great lifestyle." Paul says defensively.

Before I knew it 2 hours had gone by and me and Paul were playing ping pong outside in his backyard. Neither of us knew the score but he seemed to think that he was winning.

"You're ridiculously competitive, you know that right?" I say as I go to pick the ball up where it had flown after Paul hit it really hard. Paul would cheer very loudly whenever he would win a point, as if he had just one a gold medal.

"What can I say? I like to win, it feels good." He says laughing. I shake my head. "Hey, what's the time?" He asks me as I head back over with the ping pong ball in my hand. I get my phone out of my back pocket and see that it's 6:45.

"Quarter to seven." I say as I play the ball. He hits it back and I end up hitting the net.

"We should head over to yours. Laura said something about making you a cake." He says. As if Laura has been making my a birthday cake whilst me and Paul were out. Maybe that's why she wanted me to leave the house earlier with Paul.

"A cake? Laura can't bake to save her life." I say laughing.

"Well then, all the more reason to go and see." He smiles.

-

"I'm home!" I shout as I enter the house. It's scarily quiet. Usually Laura attacks me when I walk through the door. Maybe she can't hear me. I turn and look at Paul who looks at me like a lost puppy and shrugs.

We both begin to walk through the living room which is dark when suddenly the lights switch on and everyone screams "Happy Birthday!". I jump and almost fall back into Paul who's laughing.

"Holy sh-" I stop myself from swearing once my eyes land on Meadow and her friends. "Oh my. I can't believe you guys planned a surprise party for me." I say breathlessly.

I new that something was going on as Paul and Laura are quite possibly the worst liars ever but I didn't think this was going to happen.

-

It was now 9 and the party was in full swing. Laura had taken me upstairs to get changed into a better outfit and do my hair.

I had spent about half an hour dancing with Meadow on top of my coffee table, which Paul managed to take a few pictures of us.

I get down and stumble slightly when I reach the floor. I wasn't drunk but I was dizzy from all the dancing.

"Easy there." Paul says as he grabs my arm.

"I think I'm going to get some air outside." I say near his ear so that he can hear me. I head into the kitchen where a few of my college friends with my happy birthday and then I grab a bottle of water from an icebox before going through the sliding glass door to my backyard. There were a few people outside, some of my friends who were smoking. I sat down and dipped my feet into my pool and took a sip of my drink. My feet had been through a pretty rough day so I can't imagine how sore they will be tomorrow.

"Having a good time?" I hear Paul ask from behind me. I turn my head and look up at him standing over me.

"Yeah. More enjoyable than I thought it would be." I say looking back at the pool. He took off his shoes and sat down next to me, putting his feet into the pool. "You and Laura are rather sneaky." I say referring to the whole taking me out distraction whilst they get the house ready for a party. "Did Meadow know?" I ask.

"She helped Laura decorate the house." He says laughing. "Anyway. I wanted to give you something." Paul says as he pulls out something from his back pocket.

"You already got me the surfboard." I say.

"This is only little, I promise." He pulls out a box wrapped present. "Happy Birthday." He says handing it to me.

I take it and look up at him to see him smiling. I unwrap it and see a jewellery box which I open. Inside is a silver necklace which has my initials, A.J attached to it.

"Wow." I all my mouth can say.

"If you don't like it I can always change it." He says quickly.

"No. No. I love it. Nobodies ever bought me something like this before." I look up at him, grinning from ear to ear.

"Meadow helped me pick it out a couple days ago. It wasn't ready until today so that's why I had to go into a shop without you." He says laughing.

"Aww. Thank you Paul." I say. I reach over to hug him and he open his arms to embrace me.

"Anytime." Paul's says into my ear. I get shivers all down my spine at Paul's touch.

We pull away slowly and I get a chance to look deep into his eyes, which the swimming pool water is reflecting onto making them look even more blue. He looks back into my eyes and I feel his hand hold my cheek. His eyes flicker down and I lean forward already knowing what's going to happen. My lips meet his and his other hand holds my my opposite cheek as he deepens the kiss. I pull away and smile at Paul as I catch my breathe.
