It's A Date

"Are you sure I can borrow all of this?" I asked wearily.

"Yeah, it's no problem at all." Paul assured me as he laughed, probably at the fact that I had asked him a billion times if it was ok.

I was looking for a camera to use to take some photos for my art project but I couldn't exactly afford a decent one due to all my expensive art equipment.

"You're the best!" I say hugging him before he helps me load his camera equipment into my car.

"What do you need pictures of?" He asks.

"Beach scenery, underwater animals would be cool too. That's why I need the underwater equipment." I say as I watch him. Damn his arms look strong. No. Cut it out Alena.

"Well I'd be happy to join you, if you don't mind?" He asks hopefully. If I don't mind. Why on earth would I mind seeing a hot guy half naked?

"Really? Sure, that sounds fun! Laura isn't exactly a fan of the ocean." I say casually so I don't come off as too keen.

"Then it's a date." He says grinning. Date? What. No. Maybe he just said that in a jokingly way. It can't be an actual real date.

-

Me and Paul had made it to the beach that he recommended we go to and were currently getting ready to go in the ocean.

"I'm guessing that you swim here regularly?" I presume and ask Paul as he fiddles with the camera and I undress myself to my bikini.

"Too many times to count." He tells me grinning like a Cheshire Cat. He looks up and his eyes land on me. He stares for a few seconds before I interrupt him.

"So you know where all the best spots are?" I ask laughing.

"Of course! Just call me your personal tour guide!" He says. He takes of his shirt. I would say I'm not fazed by the view because I've already seen him with his shirt off but nope it's still as amazing as the first time.

"Let's do this then!" I say excitedly whilst reaching to high five him.

-

"Oh my gosh, did you see that?!" I shout as I reach the waters surface. Paul nods and shakes his head with disbelief. "This place is crazy." I say astonished by all the beautiful underwater creatures.

"Yeah it's pretty awesome." Paul said beaming. I can tell he loves the ocean because the massive smile he has on his face hasn't gone since we first stepped in the water. "Did you get any decent pictures?" He asks swimming closer. We tread water as we flick through the photo history. Some of these photos were incredible. Me and Paul laughed at the ones we took of ourselves underwater pulling silly faces at the camera.

"These are perfect! I just need to get some pictures of the beach before sunset." I say to Paul and he nods. I'm almost sad about having to leave the water having had such a good time.

-

"So what made you move to Santa Barbara?" Paul asks as we wonder the beach for me to take pictures. Paul was very comfortable to be around. I hadn't known him that long but he was easy to talk to and spend time with. There hasn't been one awkward silence.

"Well I was at Princeton studying law." Paul's face looks extremely surprised and amused at the same time. "It's the truth!" I say laughing. It doesn't seem realistic when you look at me now and what I'm doing with my life.

"What the heck went wrong?" He sniggers. I smack his arm with a suppressed smile on my face.

"Nothing went wrong you jerk!" I defend. "It just wasn't my dream that I was living. I've always loved art but my parents didn't think it was something I could make a living out of so that guilted me into studying law and well, 3 years was enough of my life waisted so I packed up and moved here." I explain, making the very long story short.

"And your parents were ok with that?" He asks.

"They don't know..." I trail off. I hadn't exactly told my parent that I dropped out and moved to Santa Barbara and I know at some point in the future they'll find out but I'm hoping that by that time I'll be a well established artist and they'll forgive me. Hoping.

"You're crazy. That sounds like a death sentence to me." He says shaking his head smiling. It was a death sentence. Worst case scenario: my parents disown me, best case scenario: my parents disown me.

"Yep. But I love to draw and paint so if I'm happy that's all that matters." I say matter of factly. I've always wanted to be an artist. It's the only thing I'm good at but it's hard to make a career out of it.

"That's very true." He says as he looks out onto the sea. We walked up so that we had a great view of the sunset. "Perfect timing." He nudges me slightly. I look up from the previous photos I had taken and look at Paul. He motions his me to look ahead and as I do I see the perfect sunset and pink sky in front of me.

"Wow." I say. It's all I can say. I quickly raise the camera to get a shot of the scene right before my eyes.
