One month later

Yeri's POV

I was making lunch for myself when I heard my phone ring. It was an unknown number but I ended up answering the call.

"Hey," spoke a male voice from the other side.

I couldn't keep the smile off my face.

"Hi, and I won't even ask how you got my number," I said, laughing.

He gave chuckle.

"How have you been?" he asked.

"I'm well. How are you?" I asked.

"I'm okay. I was actually wondering if you'd be free to meet me today," he said.

"Yeah, sure, what time?"

"In an hour?"

"Sounds good to me."

"Great, I'll text you the address."

After he hung up, I sighed. It had been a long time since I had talked to him. I wasn't sure what he had to say to me but I wanted to meet him, if for the very last time.

So, I got ready and after an hour I was sitting in the café he had sent me the address of. A minute later, he appeared through the door. I waved when I saw him and he walked towards me. When he reached where I stood, he engulfed me into a tight hug.

"Hey, Yeri," he said.

"Hi, Taehyung."

When he moved back, he looked into my eyes briefly, after which we settled down.

"I didn't know you were here," I began the conversation.

"I had to come here for an important task," he said and bore his eyes into mine.

"Really? And what could that be?"

Taehyung sighed and leaned closer to the table.

"I know what happened, Yeri. I know he hurt you," he said quietly.

I looked down. I knew he still had his hold on my heart but I was trying to get over him.

"I don't know what to say," I said bluntly.

Taehyung shook his head and gave me a small smile.

"No, of course not," he said.

"Honestly, I still do not know what to feel about it. I'm broken, I think. Yeah, that about sums it up," I said.

"I'm sorry."

"It is not your fault."

"I don't know how to comprehend it. I talked to him. I explained a lot. I scolded him a lot. He doesn't seem-"

But I cut him off.

"That isn't for you to do. It was his decision, Taehyung. None of it was your fault and you do not need to ruin your relation with him because of me. I do not want you both to fight or be on bad terms because of me."

"Won't you try to fight back?" he asked hopefully.

I shook my head with a smile.

"No, I will not. I cannot force him to stay with me. When he wanted me in his life, I was there. When he doesn't want me in his life, I won't be there."

"But you love him," he protested.

"Sometimes, it does not matter if you love them or not. Not always is love the answer and not always is love enough. It is a strong emotion, yes, but sometimes it just isn't meant to be. I have made my peace with this," I told him.

"He's a fool, doesn't mean you're gonna be one as well. Save your love, Yeri."

"Some love stories just aren't meant to be."

"Try something, anything," he said.

"I won't and I can't. Tonight is my last night in Korea. I am shifting to the States and won't be coming back here again for a long time," I told him. "I am starting a new life after tomorrow."

Taehyung's jaw almost fell to the ground.

"What? But you can't just leave your country because he broke your heart. You can shift to another city, but you're shifting to a whole other continent."

"I can't. This place is just too full of memories of him. I cannot spend the rest of my life yearning for him. He let me go. I have to learn to do it as well. Besides, I have already made all the arrangements and also found a well-paying job there."

Taehyung was quiet for a few moments.

"Does your heart hurt?" he asked me.

His question left me startled for a few moments.

At last, I replied.

"It does, it hurts so much I want to rip it out of my chest and throw it away but also keep it at the same time because even though he isn't with me, at least the pain is. I'll try to let him go too. I'll try hard. But I know a part of me will always want him. I love him too much, after all."

Taehyung looked at me sadly.

To change the topic, he said we should order. After our orders arrived, we indulged into some small talk. Taehyung told me about his fiancé and his plans to marry her soon. I told him to visit me with her when I go to the States and he said he would.

He showed me some pictures of her and she was beautiful; a perfect match for him indeed. I told him about my plans for the future and how I had decided to start a new life away from the one I had here.

He asked me about what I intended to do and how I intended to live my life from now on. I knew I wanted to keep it out of complexities but also have adventures along the way and enjoy every step of it.

After we had eaten and talked, we decided it was time to part ways. Taehyung offered to drop me at home and even after denying him, he ended up dropping me off. I told him to come inside but he said he was meeting his girlfriend and they'd go to Daegu together so he had to leave

"I wish you luck and happiness for your future. I hope you are able to do all that you want to do," he said, hugging me as we stood in front of my home.

"Thank you, Taehyung. I wish you loads of happiness and love with your fiancé, and I hope to meet her soon," I said.

He smiled and gave me one last hug before he got into his car and left. I turned back to my home.

Tonight would me last night living here.
