1983
It was the first day at Alex's new kindergarten. Starting in the middle of the year made the child very nervous, he didn't know anyone and everyone would already have friends and he'd be all alone.
Before school started all the kids were running around the school's playground and Alex just looked around at all the kids playing with their friends, wishing he could just go up and talk to one of them but he knew if he tried he'd just stumble over his words.
So instead he just observed. He saw some kids on the swings jumping off when they got high enough. He saw kids sliding down the big yellow slide and running back up to get in line again, laughing and smiling. He saw a group of boys playing with a ball, bouncing it back and forth. He noticed one kid by himself, he was just sitting quietly on the pavement drawing with chalk.
Alex though maybe he could approach him, but the bell rang and everyone swarmed inside like a school of fish. Alex followed nervously, hoping he'd be able to find his room okay.
Once he got there the teacher looked at him with a warm smile. "You must be the new student, Alex Mercer." Alex silently nods. The whole class was already on their seats staring at him, making him feel queasy in the stomach.
"Okay well why don't you go take a seat at the table in the back with Reggie. Reggie raise your hand please."
Alex looks up and in the back corner of the room a small boy with raven hair shots up from his seat waving his hand in the air with a smile. "Hi!" He says looking at Alex.
The class holds back their laughs and Alex slowly makes his way to the back of the room and sits at the table with the boy, who was by himself before. Alex recognized him as the boy drawing with chalk before school.
"Hi, I'm Reggie." The boy smiles. "Do you wanna be friends?"
"Of course the loser kid is trying to make friends with the new kid." Alex hears on of the boys from a table behind him say and the others at the table laugh.
"I bet the new kids just as lame as him." One of the girls say.
"Don't listen to them." Reggie says, not bothered by their comments. "I'm sure you're great, and I understand if you don't wanna be friends with me, I'm the weird kid and I'd probably ruin your chances at making any other friends."
"Doesn't it bother you? What they said about you?" Alex asks.
"Should it?" Reggie asks. "That's just how people are. Everyone says that."
"I don't think you're weird." Alex says.
"That's because you don't know me."
"I want to know you."
"Are you sure?"
Alex nods. He's not sure why but he's now determined to befriend this kid. "I'm sure." He says. "You seem way cooler than anyone else here."

The rest of the year the two stay close friends, and we're ready to start first grade together.
"Do you think the teacher will be nice? Do you think she'll be mean? Is first grade hard? I'm excited!" Reggie starts rambling to Alex as they find an empty table to sit at. Reggie continues to ask a bunch of questions Alex was wondering himself about what the new school year would hold for them when all of a sudden another boy rushed over and practically fell into the other chair at the table.
"Hi!" He says. "My name is Luke! You're my friends now."
"Oh...." Alex says nervously.
"Okay!" Reggie smiles. "I'm Reggie and this is Alex."
"Cool." Luke smiles.
"Are you named after Star Wars?" Reggie asks. He was dying to ask the second Luke introduced himself.
"What's a Star Wars?" Luke asks never having heard of his new friend's favorite franchise.
Reggie gasps and his jaw drops to the floor and his eyes go wide.
"You don't know what Star Wars is!?"
"Here we go." Alex sighs.
"No, I'm sorry." Luke says. "Is it a movie?"
"Not just any movie, the BEST movie series of all time! You have to watch it! You can come to my house and I'll show you all the movies and all my Star Wars stuff. Han Solo is the best charter, but Luke Skywalker is all right. Are you sure you aren't named after him? Alex, you're coming to my house too right?"
"Yeah, sure." Alex says.
"Are you coming Luke?"
"I have to ask my mom but I'd love to!" He says.
It was an instant click. Just as quickly as Alex and Reggie became friends, Luke joined and the three very quickly became inseparable. Where you found one, the other two would be right next to them.
They always had each other, not letting anything tare them apart. They watched as through out different friends grew apart or fell apart, but they stayed strong because they had something deeper than friendship.
It was an instant connection, and they always stand by each other through thick and thin. They had the only thing that was deeper than friendship and that's family. They're family, and nothing could change that.
Hey I hope you enjoyed, thanks so much for reading!
I have a new book I'm working on, the first two parts are out, it's called Relight that Spark. It's about what would happen if Caleb changed the last and made the boys show up at the club with him instead of with Julie. It follows that happens with the guys at the club, and how Julie's life would be different not having met them. Will they eventually remember each other?
So thats there if you're interested, or it's also on instagram. I'm actually really happy with it so far, I don't have it all written but I have the outline of what I want to happen so I hope there is no plot holes or anything and it goes smoothly and I hope k don't have to discontinue it.
Anyways, thanks again for reading, I hope you all have a wonderful day. Remember to take care of yourselves and always stand tall 💜👻
