Gilbert asked Mason to meet him at Lamson's once he got off work. Gilbert dropped Arnie off with Giselle, claiming Tucker needed his help real quick, but promised to come back and get Arnie afterward. He never specified what Tucker needed, so Giselle was a little suspicious, since Gilbert almost always told her what Tucker needed or wanted, unless it was something not very legal or she wouldn't approve of.
Anyhow, once Arnie was occupied by Giselle, Gilbert brought Mason to the field near the water tower to talk. He wanted to keep people from eavesdropping as much as he could. He knew how nosey and gossipy the people in Endora was, and he didn't want himself or Mason in one of the rumors or "talks of the town" as the people would call it.
"What's up?" Mason asked, as he kept a lazy smile on his face.
"I thought I told you to keep your hands off my sister." Gilbert spat, making Mason sigh.
"Look, man, Giselle is grown. She doesn't need you dictating her life. She's going to grow up. She's going to find herself a boyfriend. She's going to eventually have a husband, have her own kids, and probably her own place. I don't see why you'd think you could take that from her." Mason replied, causing Gilbert to glare at him.
"I'm not taking it away from her, Mason. I'm protecting her from the shit in this world. She's been through enough, we all have, and she won't be able to handle you deciding to leave out of the blue." Gilbert stated, and Mason scoffed.
"Where'd you get the idea that I was going to just leave out of the blue?" Mason rhetorically asked,"I love your sister, man, I wouldn't just leave her out of nowhere and never come back. I didn't even do that to my own father, and he deserved to be treated that way." Mason retorted, crossing his arms.
"Look, she's not like all the other girls. She's a little broken, a little selfconscious, and has some trust issues. She does not need you pushing her any further," Gilbert said,"I think it'd be best for her if you just left her alone, before she gets anymore attached." He commented, causing Mason to look at him as if he was crazy.
"You want me to just dump your sister because you think I'm going to leave her?" Mason questioned, and Gilbert nodded.
"I know it sounds bad, but I'm wanting what is best for her," He replied,"She may not see it at first, but it is. She doesn't need to become anymore in love with or attached to you." He added, causing Mason to glare at him.
"Dude, you're setting your sister up to fail in life," Mason commented,"You don't think that I'm in love with her? You don't think I'm attached? I can't imagine my life without her, and you want me to just leave?!" Mason exclaimed, and Gilbert sighed.
The brother simply nodded, before he turned and walked away from Mason. Mason stayed standing there for a moment, contemplating every word the brother had said to him. He couldn't believe him, but he knew there wasn't anything he could say to make the brother change his mind.
"Son of a bitch!" Mason exclaimed, tossing his arms up in the air in exasperation.
He then walked all the way back to his car with a look of hurt on his face. The moment he was in his car, he turned it on, and took off down the road. He drove straight home, and once he was at home, that's when all of his emotions began to show. He grabbed tools and began to throw them around in anger. He took a sledgehammer and started to beat the hell out of an old car he had parked behind his garage. The car was one his mother had wrecked years ago.
After taking his anger out on the car, he dropped the sledgehammer and headed inside of the house. He grabbed a beer from the fridge, popped it open, and took a large swig. He finished two beers in record time, but they didn't seem to calm him down. After throwing away the second beer bottle, he left the kitchen and headed to the bathroom for a shower.
He stripped out of his clothes and stepped into the ice cold water. He didn't even flinch, as the water hit his back. As the water heated, Mason sat in the bottom of the tub with a scowl on his face. After fifteen minutes, the man stood up and began to wash his body and hair.
Letting the water run through his hair and on his face, he began to take deep breaths to calm down. His frustration and anger just seemed to build, before he swung his arm and knocked all of his shower products on the ground. He let out a frustrated yell, which seemed to help him calm down a bit. He then turned off the shower, grabbed a towel, wrapped the towel around his waist, and stepped out of the shower.
He stood in front of the mirror, and used a different towel to wipe the steam off the mirror. He could see his reflection, and he watched as his lips trembled, and unshed tears stayed in his eyes. He refused for the tears to fall, as he walked to his room to put on a pair of sleep pants. Once his pants were on, he used the towel to try his hair a little bit.
He threw the towel in the hamper, before falling on to his bed. He didn't want to break up with her. He loved her, he adored her, he was attached to her. She was the first woman he had loved since his mother, and he was told he had to let her go. He didn't know if he could handle it, but he really didn't have a choice. Gilbert wouldn't let Mason be with Giselle...
