There was exactly a month until Arnie would turn eighteen. Giselle and Mason spent almost an entire day shopping for gifts for Arnie. Giselle and Mason both believed that Arnie deserved a lot of gifts. He had surpassed so many "death" years, that even his doctors were surprised. They would tell the family that Arnie was going to go "any day now" but Arnie was still holding on strong.
Giselle believed that the doctors were wrong. Arnie was going to live a long and happy life, and she was going to be sure to be there for every step of the way. She couldn't wait for him to outlive some of the doctors that didn't think he'd live to eighteen. For each year he continued to live, she wanted to send the doctors an "I Told You So" message, but she knew that wasn't a good idea.
Anyhow, throughout the month, Giselle was going to make sure everything was perfect for Arnie's birthday, even if that meant she had a couple of sleepless nights. Mason planned to help her as well, since he didn't want her straining herself. The more days that passed, the closer it got to the day she'd finally give birth.
Giselle was currently six months pregnant, and by Arnie's birthday, she would be seven months pregnant. It would be a bit of hassle to move around, but she didn't mind. She'd do it over and over, if that meant Arnie would be happy and have a good birthday.
This was going to be the first birthday where he had a real party. For all of his other birthdays, Arnie's "party" consisted of his brother and sisters and mother. This year they were inviting many people from around town. Giselle wasn't sure how good of an idea that was, since most of the people in town were mean to Arnie, but that's what everyone else wanted to do.
Giselle and Mason had actually been setting up the baby's nursery some, too. Unbeknownst to her family, Giselle was putting most of the baby's stuff at Mason's house. Yes, she'd have a bed for the baby at her house, but once the baby was born, she'd have to spend most of her time with Mason, at least until the baby was a little older.
Giselle wasn't leaving her family home, but she also wasn't making the baby stay there until she was older. Yes, the baby would be there often, but she didn't want her daughter around there too often until her immune system could handle it. She knew that newborns didn't have great immune systems, so she was only wanting to do what was best for her daughter once she was born.
If her family wanted to buy stuff and fill up the nursery at home, she'd happily let them. She just wasn't going to pay to get double of everything, when she could just carry the stuff from house to house when she needed it. Yes that sounded like a lot of work, but Giselle wasn't exactly made of money, and neither was Mason.
Well, even if Mason had enough money to buy double of everything, Giselle wasn't going to let him. She thought it was a waste of money. It was one baby, and she would mostly be staying at Mason's. Mason's wasn't far away either, so it wasn't like Giselle would be keeping her daughter hours away from her family.
Anyhow, Giselle and Mason spent almost two hours wrapping gifts for Arnie. They tried to get the most colorful wrapping paper they could find, since they wanted their gifts to stand out above the others. Well, they wanted theirs to stand out over the random people that were going to be invited.
The family hadn't gone over the planning yet, but once they did, Giselle felt they would most likely have a lot of things to do, so they wanted gifts wrapped early. They figured that they might not have time to wrap them closer to time for the party, since there was a lot of things that needed to be done for the party, as well as to the house in general. Mason planned to help Gilbert fix some more of the house when they had the chance to.
Gilbert and Mason hadn't been able to fix much, since they had been so busy with work and other things. Gilbert had been absent a little recently, and Giselle began to question where her twin disappeared to sometimes. She knew it wasn't bad, since he didn't come home smelling like alcohol or cannabis, but she knew it was something that worked on his mind.
He had been stressing a lot lately, and Giselle wanted to help as much as she could. Momma was wanting everything perfect for Arnie, and that meant everyone working ten times harder than they had been. Gilbert and Amy, as well as Mason, weren't letting Giselle over do it at all, since they didn't want her hurting herself or the baby.
At times, she felt like an invalid, but she knew they only meant well. They didn't mean to make her feel like she was useless. They were simply looking out for her and her baby. She knew, as well as them, that if anything happened to the baby because she didn't listen or did something she knew she wasn't supposed to do, she would hate herself forever.
She still wasn't use to not being able to do anything. She wasn't use to moving slowly because of the big baby bump. These things took time, but she knew once she had the baby, she'd have to get use to not being so immobile. It was just big changes that she'd have to get use to, but she was determined to do everything right. She didn't want to chance anything, so she was as careful as possible. Even if that meant her sitting and watching someone else do something, she still made sure she was careful and didn't push herself too hard...
