It took two days before Giselle finally woke up in the hospital. She was obviously disoriented, and her mouth was dry and lips were chapped. She didn't know why she was in the hospital, since the last thing she remembered was walking down the road because she was mad at Gilbert. Looking over, her eyes fell on Mason, who was sleeping in the chair next to her bed.

"Mason." She called, but her voice was raspy, and barely above a whisper.

She happened to startle Mason though, so he jumped awake. His eyes were wide, but they seemed to grow wider when he spotted Giselle. Quickly, he jumped up out of his seat.

"Oh, Giselle, thank God you're awake." He murmured, as he pressed a kiss to her forehead.

"What happened?" She asked, making him sigh.

"You were in an accident. You got hit by a car when you were walking down the road." He answered, causing a frown to appear on her face.

"Where's Gilbert?" She asked, and Mason smiled slightly, feeling a little hurt that she wanted Gilbert instead of him.

"He and Amy are on their way here. Arnie and Ellen wanted to come, but the doctor wasn't sure when you'd be waking up." Mason replied, and she sighed.

"And Momma?" She asked, wincing when she tried to turn a little too much.

"Careful," He scolded,"and to answer your question, your mom is worried sick about you. She's at home with Ellen and Arnie, but she said if you needed her, to call and she'd be here."

He watched a smile grow on Giselle's face, knowing that her mother would leave the house, even if it was only to go to a hospital. Momma hated hospitals, but she was willing to go, if her baby needed her.

"Do you want me to get a nurse? Are you hurting?" Mason asked, and Giselle nodded slightly.

Mason quickly went to the door and flagged a nurse, who stood from her seat and walked towards the room. Once she was inside, a smile came to her face seeing Giselle awake.

"You're awake!" She quietly exclaimed,"Do you want some pain meds?" She asked, and Giselle nodded.

Quickly, the nurse walked out to grab some pain medication. When she came back, a doctor was following behind her.

"I'm glad to see you awake, Ms. Grape. We were all worried about you. It was all touch-and-go for a while, but it seems you pulled through." The doctor said, causing Giselle to sigh.

"When will she be discharged?" Mason asked, knowing Giselle didn't want to be stuck in the hospital long.

"We'll need to monitor her for a couple of days, but I'd say by the end of the week, Ms. Grape should be able to go home." The doctor replied, and Mason nodded.

The doctor and nurse soon left, after the doctor checked her vitals, as well as the area where she had stitches. Once the doctor was out of the room, Giselle turned to look at Mason once more.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, a smile on her face, since the medication was kicking in and taking away her pain.

"The night of your accident, Gilbert came to my house to talk. He told me he was sorry, and that he'd stay out of our relationship. He said he wanted us to get back together, and that he'd never seen you so happy before. He was scared that I'd hurt you, but he wanted you to be happy, and he knew you were happy with me, so he'd let us get back together," He answered,"We had just gotten back to your house, I was going to bring you outside to talk, when Amy told us what happened. We raced here as fast as we could. I've been up here ever since, I haven't left once. Gilbert and Amy have been bringing me food and clothes." He added, as he sat back down near the bed.

"I'm so sorry for putting you all through this." Giselle commented, causing Mason to quickly shake his head.

"This isn't your fault, Giselle. This is the driver's fault, not yours. He should've been watching where he was going. He shouldn't have been driving so fast on a backroad. Honestly, don't ever say this was your fault." He replied, making her frown.

"But I made you guys worry, and lose sleep, and--" She began, but Mason cut her off.

"I don't care, this isn't your fault," Mason stated,"I thought I was going to lose you. That hurt like hell, and just the thought of losing you scares the hell outta me. So, please don't blame yourself, and let me be happy that you're even alive." He said, causing her to let a tear slip.

"I love you, Mason." She murmured, making him smile.

"I love you, Giselle," He replied,"and nobody is ever going to take you away from me again." He added, bringing her hand to his lips to lay a kiss on the top of it.

"Do you think you can call home, let Momma know I'm awake?" She asked, causing him to nod.

"Yeah, I'll call. Gilbert and Amy are supposed to be on their way, but they may not have left yet." He replied, reaching over to the table.

Mason grabbed the phone and dialed the number Gilbert had written down a couple of days ago. Mason listened to the line ring for a moment, until someone finally picked up.

"Hello?" He could tell it was Ellen.

"Hey, it's Mason. Has Gilbert and Amy left yet?" He asked, biting his lip.

"No, Amy's getting her shoes on," Ellen answered,"Why?"

"She's awake." He replied, causing the girl on the other end to gasp.

"Are you serious?!" She exclaimed, and Mason chuckled.

"Yes, I'm serious. She'll call you guys later when she's not so tired, okay?" He said, smiling to himself.

"Okay, I'll tell Momma." She replied,"Gilbert! Amy!" He heard, before she hung up the phone.

"Well, it seems Ellen is excited. She's about to tell everyone, and she can't wait for you to call later." Mason commented, and Giselle smiled.

"I'm so glad I have you, Mason, you're the best." She murmured, causing Mason to grin boyishly.

If it wasn't for Mason, Giselle doubted she would've been able to let her family know she had finally woke up...
