The family, plus Mason, was sitting around the table eating dinner. They were going over the plans and preparation for Arnie's birthday party. Amy was giving out the instructions and such, and somehow that angered Ellen. She wasn't happy that she was asked to do anything. She believed that Gilbert wasn't doing anything, which was stupid, considering he worked hiss ass off to make sure the party could happen.
"Why doesn't Giselle have to do anything?" Ellen questioned,"She sits around here watching us do all the work. She doesn't do anything." She complained, which angered Giselle.
"I do a lot around here, Ellen. You can gripe and complain all you want, and I'm sorry you're expected to get up and do something with your life," Giselle retorted,"Not all of us can sit in our rooms, read little girly magazines, and complain about how horrible we have it, and how horrible our family is. How about, instead complaining about it, you got up and did something to fix it?!"
Ellen stayed quiet after that, crossing her arms and pouting. Then out of nowhere she started complaining about Gilbert again. Giselle didn't know how, but all of a sudden, it turned into a discussion about their dad. Then it turned into Arnie continously yelling and chanting "Dad's dead!"
Gilbert, Amy, and Giselle tried to get Arnie to stop, but he wouldn't listen. He just kept screaming it, but that caused major problems. Momma got up and yelled at him to shut up, and she was stomping her feet and yelling. Mason and Gilbert heard the floor creaking, and they looked under the table. They could see the floor slowly leaning further in than it use to be.
Once dinner had been ruined, Giselle went to the kitchen to help Amy with the dishes. Once they finished the dishes, they went down to see if they could help Gilbert and Mason in the basement. Gilbert had called one of his friends, and asked him to help them fix it tomorrow if they had the chance.
Giselle and Amy were downstairs with Mason and Gilbert, when Momma sat down and the floorboards creaked. A lot of dust flew everywhere, and the floor sounded like it was going to break. Mason and Gilbert quickly grabbed the sisters and pulled them from the basement.
"You okay?" Gilbert asked, looking between his sisters.
"Yeah." Giselle answered, and Amy nodded in agreement.
Gilbert went up to give Arnie his bath, as Mason and Giselle went to her room for the night. Giselle was a bit emotionally tired after dealing with the outburst at dinner, as well as the almost accident in the basement. While she laid in bed, Mason held a notebook and pen in his lap, and he wrote down everything they needed to do to prepare for Arnie's birthday.
"You look cute like that." Giselle commented, causing Mason to smile.
"Like what?" He asked,"writing down a list?"
"Yeah, but more so the look of concentration on your face. When you're concentrating on something, you bite your lip and furrow your eyebrows." She replied, making him chuckle.
"I can't believe you even picked up on something like that." He joked, and she grinned.
"I pick up on all your little quirks and such," She answered,"and I love them all. They make me love you more." She added, causing him to laugh.
"You're so cheesy." He retorted playfully, bending down a bit to place a kiss on her lips.
What they didn't know, was that Amy had been watching them for a bit from the hallway. She thought they were the sweetest thing she had ever seen. She still hated herself for the way she had treated her sister after she found out the girl was pregnant. The older sister was just glad that her little sister had a man like Mason to lean on when things weren't the best.
"Are you spying on them?" Gilbert questioned quietly, scaring his older sister.
"Gilbert!" She scolded, before she turned back to watching them,"I wouldn't call it spying, I'd call it observing." She said, and he scoffed.
"It's spying, and it's creepy." He retorted, making the older girl roll her eyes.
"I can't help but admire them, Gilbert. They're so happy, and the love they share is so beautiful. I'm so glad she had him when we weren't there for her." He sister commented, causing Gilbert to silently nod.
The guilt Gilbert still felt was umeasurable. He hated himself for hurting his twin sister. He probably would always hate himself for what he did, even if she had forgiven him already. He knew Mason hadn't, but he didn't blame him. Honesty, he would never forgive anyone who hurt Giselle if he was in Mason's shoes.
He didn't watch them like his sister did, instead he went down the stairs and left the house. He needed to clear his head, especially after what had happened at dinner that night. He hadn't expected Arnie to have such a tantrum, but Arnie was sometimes unpredictable with his moods and such. Gilbert didn't blame him, but he didn't exactly forgive him for doing what he did.
Giselle had heard the front door open and close, and she knew immediately that it was Gilbert. She still had no idea where he often disappeared to at night. She had a feeling that he went and laid out under the stars like they use to, but she couldn't be sure. She wasn't really able to follow him either, because if she fell down, she and the baby could be seriously hurt.
She just hoped that wherever Gilbert disappeared to, that he was safe. She didn't want to worry about him all night every night when he disappeared. She knew he was a big boy and could protect himself, but that didn't stop her from worrying. He was her twin brother, and she worried about him more than he would ever, the same he did for her...
