Aylin walked up to the jewellery store from the parking lot, confident that she would look stunning that night. She had the perfect look in mind to impress everyone there.
As she enters, jewellers stand to greet her but she had her favorite.
"Welcome Miss Aylin, it's good to see you."
"Mr Hasmet, thank you, you too," she shakes his hand.
"Please sit down. How can I help you?"
"I want to borrow a necklace for a very special occasion. Something bright, not too in your face but just conspicuous enough."
"Of course." He nods and stands. "If you'd like I can give you a necklace to match your ring. Mr Emre would like it and I bet he'd buy it for you to keep after this occasion."
Ring?! Aylin stares at Hasmet, blinking. "What?" she asks. "What ring?" Oh my God! "Is it an engagement ring?"
Hasmet looks down at her bare hands and then back up in panic. "Oh dear," he gulps, "miss Aylin, er, it seems I have made a bit of a faux pas. I thought he - forgive me." He stands and bends his head.
Aylin stands as well, shaking her head. "No, it's okay, no harm done." He nods but still looks pale. "So, Emre bought me a ring? From you?"
"I've spoiled the surprise," Hasmet sighs. "I have not made this kind of mistake in years."
"Don't worry about it, I won't tell Emre if you don't...But I would like to see a picture of the ring, if you have one?"
He nods. "I do." He turns and she smiles, nerves and excitement all mixed into one. "He picked it out and had it made special." He felt even worse for ruining it now.
"Are you serious?"
He points at the ring example in the catalogue and Aylin stares at it.
Her eyes tear up with joy and she looks up at him. "It's beautiful."
"It is."
Aylin takes out her phone, wiping a tear away and then takes a photo of the ring, while Hasmet moves to one of the display cases. Now that she knew, she was going to make sure she looked extra nice for him.
When she looks up again, still smiling, Hasmet has returned, a delicate golden necklace with a single teardrop diamond. Aylin touches it lightly. "It's magnificent. I'll take it."
He nods and places it in a long jewellery box and gets a gift bag. "I apologize again for my mistake miss Aylin, I really hope I didn't spoil it too much..." He hands her the gift bag. "You can take it for free, I won't charge you for the loan. Just ensure it back to me when you're done."
"Thank you Mr Hasmet."
"You're very welcome my dear."
Hasmet waits until Aylin is gone, before he takes out his phone. He needed to inform Emre about this or the man might have him fired.

"Muzo, where are we even going?" Ayhan complains, walking next to a strolling Muzaffer.
"You said we needed to get a store, to stand on our own feet. I'm taking you to that store." He stops right in front of a vacant shop, the windows taped up with newspaper pages. "Here it is."
"I don't believe it," she stares at the shop. "Is this one of the places you inherited?"
He nods, grinning. "Yes. It's the only one that's close to home."
Ayhn smirks as they peek through a gap in the newspapers. "This is awesome. Where are the keys?"
"I don't like wasting time Ayhan." Muzaffer digs in his pocket and takes out a whole bunch of keys. "When I do something I do it. But uh," he frowns at the keys. "I'm not too sure which one is - Ah ha! No...Warehouse in Balat...House in Galata...Yozgat...That one my dad didn't want to buy," he wrinkles his nose. Ayhan sighs. "Ah, here it is."
