Gayoung and Yeon were stuck together, as they had to wait for the ceremony to finish before they could claim the bride's soul. They sat together at an empty table near the back of the room, but they still had a clear view of their target, who seemed genuinely happy, pretending she was just a normal human enjoying her wedding.

Yeon looked over at the Haetae next to him, who seemed as bored as he was. Her black, sparkly dress reached the floor; it had a slit on its left side, but it was modest enough to be mostly closed; he could see a peak of her leg if he looked long enough; and her shoulders were free as the dress had no sleeves. He could feel his heart picking up in speed the longer he looked at her, much to his own annoyance. No one could claim that Gayoung wasn't attractive. Her natural beauty was almost as known as her status in their world. Even before their whirlwind romance officially started, he couldn't deny that Gayoung was the most attractive woman he'd met in his long life.

"Do I have something on my face?" Gayoung asked, making him flinch.

She felt his eyes on her, and it unnerved her.

What was he basically examining her for?

She felt self-conscious under his eyes. He was scanning her to find something wrong with her and point it out.

"No, nothing like that," Yeon answered. "It's just... you look well."

'Now what did that mean?' Gayoung thought, confused as ever. Was he flirting? Being polite? She had no idea what was going through his head, and that angered her. Of course, he was confusing her even more with this chance encounter.

"Thank you?" She said it, sounding unsure. "I should hope I look well after all these centuries."

She pulled some of her hair in front of her face as a natural shield against Yeon's eyes. She could feel him still staring at her as the ceremony continued. She wasn't sure if she should continue giving him the cold shoulder or make polite conversation like he was.

"You also look well. Six centuries seem to agree with you," she said, after debating with herself about what she should say.

Yeon licked his lips and turned his head away from her. He could feel how awkward things were between them. He knew that this had to be beyond difficult for her. Being kind while he was cold and unforthcoming with her when probably all she wanted was to kill him too.
