Gayoung had never regretted coming out on this sudden trip to find the answers about why her parents went to Eohwa Island all those centuries ago then she did at this moment. She stared at the sight in front of her, her heart feeling like it was being squeezed tightly, tears building up in her eyes but she refused to let them spill over, before looking down to her hand that was about to break off a section of the wooden bridge.
'I need to go. Now.' Gayoung thought, taking a step back from Yeon and Ji-ah, who may or may not still be kissing and locked in an intimate position, making the wooden boards creak under her heels but she was too into her own thoughts to realize she had unintentionally got the two's attention.
She headed back to what she thought was the center of the village, a dull pounding now at the front of her forehead, as the squeezing feeling in her chest only got tighter.
"Just stay here for a minute. I'll be back after I check this side of the village." Yeon told Gayoung, his knuckles softly brushing against her cheek while he looked at her with a look of adoration.
He had been so happy when he got her in the car. Despite knowing that she was allowing herself to get swept up in the whirlwind that was Yeon and his sudden proclamations without thinking rationally she still found herself sitting in the passenger seat of his car, a playlist of Beethoven, Mitski, and the latest K-pop girl group songs as their background music. He had made her a customized playlist she realized after a few minutes of driving when she caught the name of the playlist being simply her name.
Perhaps she should have jumped out of the passenger seat when the car stopped, and Ji-ah got into the backseat. She remembered being definitely surprised.
She looked over at Yeon for an answer but he was already driving them all again.
Gayoung let out a long sigh as she walked past the throngs of creatures hidden in the costumes of regular humans. It felt that every sound, smell, sight was set to a thousand which was making the buzzing in her head more prominent and her eagerness to just leave and head home all she could think about. She didn't want to hear anything that Yeon had to say, her self-depreciation kicking in as she mentally kicked herself over letting herself start to believe in Yeon's honey laced words and misleading actions.
What an idiot she was.
How could she let herself start to fall for him again after everything he had done to her? Was she a complete idiot?
