Forgotten

DEVAN'S POINT OF VIEW

My mouth fell open in shock and I looked back at Melly who held the same expression.

Scout lay back down and asked, "Where am I?"

"You're in a hospital in London," I told her.

"London?" She sat up again. "Who are you?"

"I'm Devan, and that's Melly."

"Devan Rake?"

"Yeah." Maybe she hadn't forgotten.

Suddenly she pulled off her IV's and then she jumped on me. We both fell to the ground and she punched me in the face.

"You kidnapped me!" She shouted. "You are going to use me so you can kill my father just like I had killed yours!"

"What?" Melly exclaimed.

I pushed Scout off of me. She immediately jumped to her feet, but then lost her balance and leaned on the bed for support, a hand pressed over the injury on her chest.

"You've weakened me so I can't fight," She said. Then she looked up and glared at me, looking me dead in the eyes and said, "I'm going to kill you."

But before she could do anything more, she collapsed on the floor.

That's when the nurse came running in. "What happened?"

"She woke up and started shouting and then she passed out," I told her.

"Are you alright?"

I just realized that I was bleeding from Scout punching me. "Yeah, yeah I'm fine."

I helped get Scout back in the bed.

"She didn't remember me," I told the nurse.

She nodded. "That happens quite often after a using the drug. Amnesia. But, on average they remember everything within a couple weeks."

"Oh."

I had known that it was amnesia again. Of course I didn't want it to be true so having the nurse say it was like a slap in the face.

"Devan?" Melly asked once the nurse left. "Did Scout kill our dad?"

I nodded.

"I guess I'm not exactly sad. Or surprised."

"I was the same when she told me."

Melly was quiet for a moment, and then said, "Your dream was true."

"What?" I asked.

"About her not coming back. Just interpreted in a different way. The Scout we know didn't wake up."

I went out to find the nurse and asked her when Scout will be able to go home.

"I'll send the doctor to check on her and he will let you know," She said.

Fifteen minutes later the doctor told us that she could be released tomorrow morning, but if anything happens, we have to bring her straight back.

Scout stayed asleep until then, and when she woke up she of course caused trouble. She tried running from me. Melly had brought clothes for her and while she was changing I stepped out into the hall. Scout ran out and away from me, but didn't get far.

She stopped before she got down the hallway because she was getting dizzy and had to sit down.

"Remember what the doctor had told you?" I asked her. "You don't have much energy, so you can't be doing a lot. It's bad for your injury."

She glared at me, but otherwise did nothing to argue.

But later as we were getting into the car, she tried to get away again, but after struggling in my grip for a minute, she gave up.

She realized that she wasn't going to get anywhere for a while and gave up trying to fight with me.

I had sent Melly back yesterday to explain to the others about the amnesia so when she got back they wouldn't confuse her or be confused by her.

I held onto her arm when we arrived in case she still wanted to try any tricks.

"Scout!" Sarah yelled when we walked in the house.

Sarah hugged Scout and Scout bent down to embrace her as well.

"Sarah," Scout said. "What are you doing here?"

Scout looked around at everyone in the room and held her gaze on Owen. She didn't question, but we could all tell that she blamed him for taking them back.

"Come on," I said to Scout.

She did as she was told; knowing that she couldn't argue for long so trying anything would be pointless. I led her to her room.

"Can I ask you a few questions?" I asked her.

She sat on the bed and I sat in the desk chair.

"I won't give you any information," She said.

"No, it won't be those kind of questions."

She looked at me skeptically, but then nodded.

"What do you last remember before you woke up in the hospital?" I asked.

She took a moment. "I was out getting someone to pay up what they owed. Then he went running and I chased after him. Then I got hit by a car and that's it."

"Do you know when that was?"

"How long have I been out?" She asked suddenly, moving to the window and connecting the temperature to the date. "It was June."

"So you don't remember anything of the past five months?"

"Have I been in a coma the whole time?"

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you what happened the past five months."

She now glared at me and sat back on the bed. "Tell me what happened."

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"I told you that you wouldn't believe me."

"I would believe it unless it was lies. You shouldn't even waste your breath. Marcus will come to get me."

"No he won't."

"He will, and even if he doesn't, Miles will."

"Neither of them will. Do you want lunch?" I stood up.

"No."

"Are you not hungry?"

"No."

"Alright. But I won't let you starve yourself again."

"Again?"

"Just work on remembering."

I left the room, closing the door, and I almost locked it, but then decided not to. She wouldn't get far even if she did get out.

When I sat down at the table in the kitchen, I was hit with a lot of questions.

"She pretty much is how she would have been if she wouldn't have gotten amnesia before. The last thing she remembers is just before Owen took her last June. She doesn't remember any of what happened the past five months," I told them. "Right now she is weak from the coma and the injury so she can't do much. Just the walk from the car to her room made her tired."
