Four Days Ago: The Day of the Rebirth of the Power of the Moon
Ishna's POV
The crowd gasps as Rex came into view. Behind him is the gate he opened from the world of humans, seems like a home office on the other side.
He is the same as I remembered from years ago, older but his face is the nonetheless, same. He is wearing a suit even at the unholy hour of night. His hair is brushed up.
He walks with intent towards my teacher as if he did not rebel against the rules of Vanguardia gatekeepers, as if he did not commit a crime to the community by stealing the book of the first Vanguardia. He walks without care, without even a glance at his soulmate he left for who knows what reason.
I looked at Eleanor, Regina's mother, who is among the crowd. Her face is hard, void of emotions she probably practiced for years. She knows that this time will eventually come.
"Rex." The elder, my teacher said.
All Vangurdias around are on high alert.
He put up his hand in surrender. "Pinuno?" He addressed my teacher with mockery in his voice. For fuck's sake, what is he up to?
"Gusto ko muna makipag-usap bago mo sila utusang hulihin ako. Maari ba yon?" Tanong niya.
My teacher signaled his hand to calm everyone.
"Hmmm." Rex hummed as he looked around.
The elder asked impatiently.
Tumawa siya nang bahagya. "Isang regalo na pinaghirapan ko."
He carefully fished out a tiny bottle from her coat. I tried to check what's in it kasi medyo malapit lang naman ako. Berdeng pinong buhangin? It seems familiar but I can't remember.
We fucking let down our guard.
All Vanguardias around with the ability to fight tried to reach them.
Ano to?
I looked around to see if Eleanor is still there. She's a healer. She can help us.
We all gasp because there is only one reason why it will rain in Vanguardia and it got us confused.
It's her. Eleanor. Then, I heard her chant something.
The words I recognized from the books of healing. She is also the one who created the rain. It never rains in the island except if a healer intends to cure a disease that involves a lot of Vanguardias all at once.
